Met Gala 2014 ‘Charles James: White Tie and Decorations’

This year’s Met Gala theme was in honour of Charles James, a British-born fashion designer known as ‘America’s First Couturier’. So you’d think that the dress code of ‘white tie and decorations’ would be pretty straightforward to follow.

I mean I was expecting so many big puffy ballgowns long sleeve gloves and jewels dripping everywhere. It’s just a shame that so many celebrities flouted the dress code and just treated it like any old red carpet event, I mean I guess I go on about the theme every year, but why is it so seemingly difficult to stick to a simple rule?

There was such a mish-mash of looks for the Met Gala 2014 that I’m not sure where to begin. For some attendees they went all out and worked a ballgown to the max. Sarah Jessica Parker, Arizona Muse and Karolina Kurkova were stand outs for me. From SJP’s over the top hair do, the extravagant graphic print train adorned with Oscar de la Renta’s signature in red and those white gloves; Karolina Kurkova wore the best Marchesa of the night (Katie Holmes looked a hot mess in her yellow confection) of course this gown was made for an event like this, could you imagine it on any other red carpet without people claiming she was being OTT… And Arizona Muse looked beyond perfection in a gorgeous red Ralph & Russo creation from their debut couture collection which I simply adored.

SJP // Karolina Kurkova // Arizona Muse - Being Oreo

At first I was very much on the fence with Emmy Rossum’s Carolina Herrera gown, it reminded me a lot of Lucy Liu’s Golden Globes 2013 dress which I fell in love with at first sight. This yellow floral design was very much in keeping with the theme and it was very spring-like, so well done Emmy because technically you ticked all the boxes. I really liked Hailee Steinfeld’s Prabal Gurung monochrome dress, but again it struck similarities in shape with Sandra Bullock’s Golden Globes dress from this year, maybe tried and tested works for this designer now but I miss the drama of his RTW collections. Another designer that absolutely sticks to a tried and tested formula is Zac Posen, his signature red carpet gowns are unmistakable, however his teal creation that Liu Wen wore was stunning.

Emmy Rossum // Hailee Steinfeld // Liu Wen - Being Oreo

Honourable mention must go to Greta Gerwig who could have easily been missed had it not been for her modern take on couture in her Theory by Olivier Theyskens’ one shoulder monochrome gown. Also to the Topshop girls who worked the theme to a T, with Kendall Jenner, Toni Garn, Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman all looking like sheer perfection in their respective looks. Ever since Topshop created that first stand out Met Gala look for Ginnifer Goodwin in 2011 they’ve just gotten better and better at this event.

Greta Gerwig // Topshop girls - Being Oreo

Now for those with the best plus ones. The ever flawless and with hands down the best accessory ever (her hubby), Blake Lively. It’s so nice to see her back to her best and also with Ryan Reynolds who so often eschews these types of events. Another couple who worked the magic of the Met Gala red carpet was David and Victoria Beckham in her own custom design. I liked their return to that matchy matchy best because it proves how far they’ve come that they can still rock it without the horrors of the past rearing it’s ugly head. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield also looked adorable on the red carpet together, with Emma in a cute two-piece pink Thakoon look and let’s not forget my absolute faves Josh Jackson and Diane Kruger in a very pretty Hugo Boss dress.

Obviously Beyonce killed it like only she knows how in one of her favourite designers, Givenchy. What elevated this look was that netted veil and dark lip, some may say so what Jennifer Lawrence wore a half veil last year but I say so what this is Queen B we’re talking about. Another one of my favourite looks came from the ever sexy Olivia Munn, she wore a yellow very very very deep-v Diane von Furstenberg dress which admittedly erred on the slutty side but the girly hemline and cute Hollywood curls helped her veer away from that. But I mean when you look as good as she does and is as smart, funny and clever as she is I can only say WOW. Jessica Alba was like a golden goddess on the Met Gala red carpet also wearing Diane von Furstenberg. I am in absolute awe of her make up though, that bronzed smokey eye is literally the perfect look ever. FLAWLESS.

Beyonce // Olivia Munn - Being Oreo Jessica Alba - Being Oreo

Of course I can’t go onto the best of the rest without including Lupita Nyong’o. Her stylist, and Prada for that matter, did not get the dress code memo because she turned up in a 20s style flapper dress complete with jewels, feathers, a headpiece and brown slip dress. Of course she secured herself some column inches from this get up but I think I’ve come to the conclusion that in the search of something epic to follow up the Oscars Prada gown they’ve gone way off book and came up with this. But guess what, Lupita is fashion’s dahling at the moment and she can more than get away with this by sweeping it under the rug and adding it to her very very small pile of mishits.

Now someone who just added to her big massive long list of mishits and mishaps was Katie Holmes, and that hot yellow mess she called a Marchesa gown. When will she ever learn?!

My Best Dressed Celebrities: 2013

I’ve spent way too much time looking at pretty pictures of celebrities in amazing dresses that I would never in a million dreams be able to get my hands on, but that was time spent productively as it means I have my finished Best Dressed Celebrities of 2013 list.

So sit back with a brew and get scrolling as I count down my top ten eleven best dressed.

11. Nicole Kidman
A last minute entry and the reason my top ten is now a top eleven… I’m usually very against Nicole’s frozen look on the red carpet but she had some truly beautiful moments on the red carpet this year especially in Cannes. I don’t know what it is about the French film festival, but Cannes always brings the most amazing, jaw-dropping gowns. Nicole was serving on the grand jury for Cannes Film Festival this year and she wowed us with a Valentino Couture gown which is the same gown rumoured to have been Anne Hathaway’s original choice for the Oscars before she picked that ghastly Prada monstronsity. Nicole is also BFFs with Mick Jagger’s partner, fashion designer L’Wren Scott, so we always see a lot of her dresses on the statuesque red head. A particular standout moment for me of Nicole was her campaign for Jimmy Choo, a total move away from her normal look, I absolutely loved that choppy fiery bob.

10. Solange Knowles
Solange is of course the lesser known Knowles sister, and has always been known for her daring approach to fashion which I think has definitely rubbed off on Beyonce in recent years. Particular standout looks for me were Solange’s Stephane Rolland white jumpsuit she wore in Cannes better than the red carpet gown she wore, her green bejewelled Ralph & Russo dress she wore to the Grammys and her (some might say) marmite Christian Siriano look she wore to a Vogue event in Dubai. Solange always knows how to rock her ‘fro whether wild and crazy or in box braids, and she knows a thing or two about a sexy thigh split.

9. Nicole Richie
Nicole has upped her game in the past year, gone but not forgotten are her boho roots and in their place was an ultra glam refined woman. You can still see her unique twist on a look with her own range of House of Harlow accessories, and a eclectic set of hairstyles and a perfect smoky eye. Her standout moments come in the form of a stunning Dolce & Gabbana gown at the LACMA Gala, that Marc Jacobs 90s inspired dress and a classic Hollywood moment at the Golden Globes. Thank god Nicole ditched Paris and saught out a career in fashion, much like Victoria Beckham, when she was villified for her path to fame (despite being Lionel Richie’s daughter) she has proved her worth.

8. Elizabeth Banks
Not many looks from Elizabeth Banks this year, but still worthy of an entry on my best dressed list. Thanks to another Hunger Games promo tour we got to see Elizabeth at her best, she wowed us with two Elie Saab gowns, a neon yellow Jason Wu and a dreamy silver dress by the same designer on the same night. She placed second in my best dressed list last year with her rainbow red carpet wardrobe and 2013 again demonstrates an actress not afraid to inject some colour into her look.

7. Jennifer Lawrence

There are 23 looks here from Jennifer Lawrence and believe me when I tell you that’s not all of them. She comes in at number seven on my best dressed of 2013 list because she’s Jennifer Lawrence and I’m in love with her. Thanks to her partnership with Dior she had a very hit and miss year on the red carpet. It was expected that on every major red carpet the Oscar-winning actress would be dressed in the brand that she officially became the face of, but not to everyone’s pleasure. There were epic hits like her beautiful Oscars gown which I originally didn’t love but adore now, even more so her dramatic look at the Paris premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and of course a non-Dior dress with her Vanity Fair Oscar after-party in a metallic Calvin Klein that flattered her figure beautifully. Her promo tour for Catching Fire was a mixed bag but overall she seemed to become more relaxed in Dior more so with her gorgeous new hair cut which freshened her whole image. I can’t wait to see what Jennifer brings to the red carpet in 2014 as it looks like she’ll be on the awards circuit again with a supporting actress nomination for American Hustle.

6. Lily Collins
Wow, Lily Collins had a great year on the red carpet thanks to her promo tour for The Mortal Instruments. Whilst the film didn’t get rave reviews, I enjoyed it and Jamie Campbell Bowers sexy bad boy character even if there was a weird incest plot (?!). Lily executed one of the best promo tours I’ve seen in recent years and her only competition for me was the celebrities who are above her in my best dressed list! She debuted so many different looks it was hard to keep up, she ruled the dark berry lip, worked the sexy cutout in Cushnie et Ochs and wore plenty of crop tops, not to mention old Hollywood glamour as seen in her two Houghton looks below. She consistently outdid herself on every red carpet, and those brows are things of dreams. Wow.

5. Diane Kruger

In at my number one spot last year for her epic run at the Cannes Film Festival, this year Diane Kruger proves she is the most consistent when it comes to style on and off the red carpet. She’s always been my number one style crush, and one half of my most favourite celeb couple, so when her best accessory is Joshua Jackson you cannot fail to love her. From her Oscars Giambattista Valli cape-back mini and handsome plus one, to her Jessica Rabbit Jonathan Saunders look at the the Hammer Museum Gala, and not forgetting her head to toe Chanel Couture look at The Host New York premiere with Josh in that perfect blue suit. Her best looks for 2013 come in the form of a beautiful and surprisingly not couture Valentino Resort gown she wore to the Valentino Ball during the Venice Film Festival, a Prabal Gurung Resort gown for the Metropolitan Opera Season Opening, and a pretty gold Marchesa dress for the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund event. Other looks that I adore are her Mary Katrantzou dress, her Chanel Couture cocktail moment and that super cute Emilia Wickstead tuxedo style dress for the Autism Speaks event.

4. Kate Hudson
Ahh the Californian beauty has one of the best bodies in the business and never fails to show it off in some spectacular gowns. My absolute favourite from Kate this year had to be the Reem Acra gown she wore to the Tiffany & Co. Blue Book Ball, fittingly the gown was the exact shade of Tiffany blue and she looked simply stunning with that thigh split and sweetheart neckline, perfect blonde waves and gorgeous jewels. Kate also showed of those abs in a Gucci gown at the LACMA Gala, proving that a deep v neckline and cutouts doesn’t always mean trashy. Kate also looked fabulous in black Alexander McQueen at the Golden Globes, in BFF Stella McCartney at the ELLE UK Style Awards and looked adorable and sexy in a purple Bec & Bridge playsuit at the iHeart Radio Festival. Here’s to another year of Kate Hudson dropping jaws.

3. Nina Dobrev
I harp on about this all the time but Nina Dobrev will always top my best dress ever list with her Donna Karan Atelier gown she wore to the 2011 Emmys. It was just so epic and stunning, and two years later she still continues to wow on the red carpet much to the talent of her stylist Ilaria Urbinati who has created many of the looks you see below. In particular the Naeem Khan tropical mini dress was my favourite from Nina in 2013, not just because she can rock a mini like no other but because I like to think my request to see Nina in the SS’13 worked and my wish was granted! Her Monique Lhuillier jumpsuit/dress she wore to the MET Gala was another genius creation, pushing the punk envelope whilst still being sexy and glam is no mean feat she was one of my best dressed of the night. Other standout looks come in the form of a sporty pink Elie Saab at the SAG Awards, a colourful Julien Macdonald mini for her Cosmo cover party and another stunning Naeem Khan for the Elton John Oscar viewing party. Like so many others on my list I cannot wait to see what Nina Dobrev has in store for 2014.

2. Naomie Harris
What an amazing red carpet year for this Mandela actress, another star that had an epic promo tour with an array of designers dressing her and looking simply beautiful. I couldn’t possibly pick between the Alexander McQueen gown Naomie wore for the Royal premiere of Mandela or the Marchesa she picked for the Oxfam Charity Gala – two very different but stunning looks. Naomie wowed with gorgeous pastel colours in Vionnet and Burberry, then a rich purple at the MET Gala, patterns in Vivienne Westwood and Gucci and glitz in Calvin Klein and Donna Karan Atelier. After a very mixed bag with her Bond promo tour the Mandela proved a complete success.

1. Kerry Washington
In at number one, is Kerry Washington. She fell into my top spot quite organically, simply because as I was putting all of the looks together Kerry’s two top looks below were just my absolute favourites. I remember the first time I saw her on the red carpet in that Giles gown and couldn’t believe my eyes, I don’t even know what it is about it that makes me like it so much, maybe the horse print was just so unexpected and that dark berry lip was just perfection. And then the bubblegum sweetness of her Oscar de la Renta gown at the NAACP Awards was just the total opposite, those two colours together along with a matching pink lip was just beautiful. I admit I wasn’t a massive fan of her Miu Miu Oscars look but loved her Miu Miu Golden Globes look, she looked gorgeous in both Marchesa dresses and she still manages to look youthful and fresh when she flashes those pins in mini dresses from Stella McCartney and Giambattista Valli. Overall Kerry’s promo tour for Django Unchained was a win, closely followed by Naomie Harris and Lily Collins for their respective red carpet runs. Let’s just ignore that Prada monstrosity from the Scandal Season 3 premiere!

Red Carpet: Emmys 2013

First time watching E! Live from the Red Carpet for the Emmys, after so many years of missing out not having Sky now I do and boy I thought I was in for a treat.

Only I wasn’t. Good god from the ‘glamazoom cam’ to the ‘mani cam’ to the ‘mani gram’ it sounded like I was in a hospital waiting room not watching E!’s red carpet coverage. It’s so ludicrously stupid watching walking skeleton Guiliana Rancic force celebrities to parade their hands in a miniature version of the red carpet to show of their manicures and then show off their shoes in the ‘stiletto cam’. Honestly.

Then the other half was Ryan Seacrest, who literally looked like he couldn’t give two shits about being there and didn’t have a clue about any of the celebrities he was interviewing apart from all the Modern Family cast that turned up as the Fug Girls said it was like a “sausage fest” apart from the funny moment Claire Danes booted Seacrest out of the way to fawn over her good friend Lena Dunham or the other moment Amy Poehler hijacked his Carrie Underwood interview and made it so much better.

Seacrest infuriated me even more when interviewing Bryan Cranston there in support of his amazingly popular show Breaking Bad and basically said he didn’t watch it, which fair enough not everyone does no beef, but then for Christina Hendricks to follow and they pass each other on the stairs and Seacrest says oh have you guys met this is Bryan. Seriously as a showbiz host surely this guy should know they starred together in Drive?!!!

Anyway the main thing that we didn’t get to see enough of in this two hour red carpet snorefest was the only reason I watched – THE DRESSES.

Initially my gut went towards Rose Byrne as my best dressed of the night, I love that she managed to make a bare midriff look sexy and classy at the same time in her on trend blush pink Calvin Klein dress. But then I remembered the first massive wow of the Emmys red carpet when Linda Cardellini stepped out wearing a beautifully structured grape coloured Donna Karan Atelier gown. It’s a draw between these two from sleek and simple versus structured and intricate.

Rose and Linda

Second on the list is Emilia Clarke’s Donna Karan Atelier gown, one that I was anticipating a lot as she’s always a stand out on the red carpet. I loved her white leaf detailed dress paired with a silver metal belt which I think made the look. Some people on Twitter likened her dress to shredded tissue, I think that’s a bit extreme! What I thought was interesting and what I didn’t spot at first is that her gown isn’t actually strapless but an illusion one-shoulder, it’s about time someone demonstrated how to match skin tone to the illusion panelling!

Emilia Clarke close far

Emilia Clarke in Donna Karan Atelier

Next up, Tina Fey looking just hot in one of my favourite colours. Her Narciso Rodriguez dress is basically very similar to what Sofia Vergara always wears but we don’t usually expect something like this from Tina Fey who tends to favour darker colours. Keeping things simple in the hair and beauty department and adding some nice bling I definitely think she was a stand out of the night.

The colour is probably why I like Alison Williams dress, but the reason she picked this plain and somewhat boring Ralph Lauren gown was because she “felt comfortable”. Isn’t fashion about taking a risk, and making those memorable lists? She’s just floating in the middle and the only reason her look is elevated is because she has stupidly uh-mazing hair.

Another floater is Kerry Washington. I really wanted her to be on the top, every dress she wears I compare to that stunning Giles gown she wore to the London premiere of Django Unchained, and this princess frothy frou-frou floral embellished chiffon right-off-the-runway Marchesa is so beneath that. There’s some rumours of an early pregnancy due to the slight empire line but I just think this is nice but I want more. She can give me more!

thirds emmys

At first I really liked Claire Danes’ Armani Prive but that was because I was swept up in faux-bob-gate to notice her weird boobs, still the detail is beautiful. I don’t really know Julia Louis-Dreyfus that well so I kind of overlooked her, but her Monique Lhuillier is a little bit epic. I wish someone with bigger star power (in my eyes at least) had worn it. Anna Gunn, who is looking frighteningly skinny, did look great in her Romona Kevesa monochrome look which was definitely a winner’s dress as she picked up the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Breaking Bad.

And then there was Lena Dunham who I always expect to be on my worst dressed list because she refuses to choose anything that flatters her shape. Anyone else noticed that Prada just doesn’t do a good red carpet gown? Well Lena and Michelle Dockery both wore Prada and both dresses were hideous. Then there was Zosia Marmet who makes my list just for not knowing the difference between a custom gown and a gown that has already been shown in the Honor resort collection that is exactly the same as your dress (guuurrrl). And then January Ice Queen Jones who was boring and unfunny whilst being interviewed by Seacrest and wore a really dull Givenchy custom creation, her hair was nice though.

Oh I nearly forgot – the jaw droppingly handsome Kit Harington was there. Yum.

The Oscars 2013: Red Carpet

The Oscars Red Carpet is the peak of the awards season, and it signals the end of all the boozing and schmoozing. What I love the most about this red carpet, is the anticipation and build up of which designers the stars will pick to wear.

It could be the making of a fairly unknown designer’s career, or it could be the Kings and Queens of red carpet dressing are displayed in all their glory, like the obvious pairings of Jennifer Lawrence and Dior, Anne Hathaway and not this time Valentino, Jennifer Lopez and Zuhair Murad, Jaime King and Jason Wu, and Diane Kruger and Chanel/JasonWu/Giambattista Valli…

What I hope for the most is for someone to be daring, for a celebrity to be brave and genuinely shock critics and viewers alike by picking something unexpected. The only person on the Oscars red carpet that managed that on Oscars night was Jennifer Aniston.

Don’t be mistaken I don’t think she was the best dressed I’m just glad she wasn’t wearing black. Her red Valentino Haute Couture gown didn’t translate as well as on the red carpet as it did on the runway, but kudos to Jennifer because everyone expected her to stick to her usual monochrome palette instead she pushed that envelope a little by going with strapless red bustier dress, safe but interesting for her.

Jennifer Aniston in Valentino Couture at The Oscars 2013.

Another person in red was Sally Field, although she lost out to Anne Hathaway for Best Supporting Actress, she looked gorgeous in Valentino Haute Couture. Showing the younger ones how it’s done by wearing a sheer gown with a nude underlay , it was a worthy effort and she certainly looked better in her red Valentino than Hilary Swank who chose a similar gown from the Spring couture collection.

Sally Field in Valentino Couture at The Oscars 2013.

I give the award of Best OTT Frou-Frou Moment to Amy Adams, another strapless bustier gown but this time a dove grey Oscar de la Renta creation that the actress struggled to manage down the red carpet. This was just one of many colourless gowns that was on display, it could have been epic if it was a vivid pink or even yellow.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta at The Oscars 2013.

My obvious choice for Best Princess Moment has to go to Jennifer Lawrence she just simply shone on the Oscars red carpet.

I’ve been trying to figure out for weeks what she would pick from the Dior Spring Couture collection, her BAFTAS dress threw me and the dresses I had earmarked for her were worn by Marion Cotillard, instead she chose a blush pink brocade strapless (!) bustier gown.

A twitter picture showing her getting ready was released just before she appeared on the red carpet, I was glad because I genuinely thought I’d be waiting all night for her to appear. I think what made the look was the Chopard necklace draped down her back, such a modern touch.

I’m so glad she won the Best Actress Oscar because after her previous two nominations this was deserved, and also simply because she is adorably clumsy as proved when she tripped going up the stairs to collect her award.

JLaw getting ready.

Stunning.

I think what the trouble was with the Oscars red carpet was that it was pretty mediocre, I mean don’t get me wrong there were some nice dresses but that’s all they were just nice and if not pretty boring. So many stars chose to go the strapless look, either a coloumn design or a big full skirt there was hardly any variation. That’s why as soon as Naomi Watts stepped onto the red carpet I knew she was going to be my best dressed without fail.

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive at The Oscars 2013.

Naomi Watts in Armani Prive at The Oscars 2013.

It all rests on the cutout, otherwise it is simply another sparkly column gown, Naomi had said that she wanted something different and this was the perfect choice to stand out on the red carpet. I’m surprised more people didn’t choose a cutout design, it’s such an easy way to add something special without it being tacky (I’m looking at YOU Brandi Glanville). Naomi’s gorgeous teased updo, jewels, and flawless make up made the whole look.

Another actress who dared to do something different was Zoe Saldana, her red carpet style is so unpredictable it was great to see her in a lavender Alexis Mabille Couture gown with an ombre style train. The floral applique hem made the strapless element more exciting, and noticeable with her hair wavy but pushed back to expose her drop earrings.

Another stand out gown came from Stacy Keibler, this is her second year as George Clooney’s plus one at The Oscars so well done to her for keeping hold as we all know George is notorious for getting a girlfriend just for awards season maybe she’s a keeper… Anyway she wore a gun-metal grey Naeem Khan embellished gown that just made her look stunning, she made my best dressed list last year as well in Marchesa so she obviously knows what looks good on her and isn’t afraid to flaunt it. I’m warming towards these faux wavy bobs as well I wish my hair would do something like that…

I was really looking forward to seeing Kerry Washington on the red carpet, and whilst she impressed me in Miu Miu with her coral pop of colour and embellished bust, it was once again a strapless gown. I really was expecting something dramaticlike the amazing Giles dress she wore to the UK premiere of Django Unchained. Now that was epic.

When I saw Charlize Theron on run the red carpet, what struck me was how gorgeous she looked with her ice blonde pixie crop with a matching ice white Dior Haute Couture peplum gown. Yes it was another strapless dress, but with Charlize she’s able to bring something that sparkles without really having to do anything. The only factor that may have pushed Charlize down further on my best dressed list is heat magazine associating her with Brigette Nielsen…

It’s really the case of the best of an OK bunch, as Salma Hayek wore a black velvet Alexander McQueen dress with gold halterneck applique, Jennifer Garner playing the part of proud wife in a purple ruffled Gucci gown, Samantha Barks looking sexy in black Valentino, Sandra Bullock wearing one of the only Elie Saab gowns in black, Olivia Munn in a burgundy and gold Marchesa with stunning make up and hair, Fan Bingbing wearing an extremely vivid pink Marchesa, and of course one of the shocks of the night Anne Hathaway wearing Prada NOT Valentino, it was a pretty dire dress to be fair as the darts on the bust of the gown made her nipples look erect the whole time.

And a special award to Funniest Hair Faux Pas has to go to Melissa McCarthy, her hair disaster was beyond epic. You could see her bouffant bobbing along in the crowd from space. Otherwise her David Miester dress was quite pretty.

Blake Lively Savages press tour

She’s back, and she’s hotter than ever. (Is that even possible?!)

Blake Lively kicked off the press tour for her newest movie, Savages, last week and has had hit after hit on the red carpet.

We haven’t really seen much of Blake recently, what with Gossip Girl filming earlier in the year and her dating Ryan Reynolds, one of the hottest guys in the movie business, she has been greatly missed.

One of my style crushes, Blake has the perfect mixture of legs, boobs and hair and she knows how to work each of these to her advantage. She’s not scared to flash her pins with a hint of boob, it comes across as sexy and not slutty, she can work a suit just as well as a mini dress and that’s always a good thing when you have a press tour for a movie that requires numerous different looks to keep the fashion critics on their toes.

Her first big WOW moment of the Savages press tour was at the LA premiere, wearing Zuhair Murad Couture. After just been announced as the face of the new Gucci Premiere fragrance, Blake went old Hollywood glamour with Veronica Lake-esque classic waves with a voluminous twist and a form-fitting gown with matte red lips and matching nails.

The nude gown had black bead detailing which perfectly outlined Blake’s honed body, and she was serious competition for Salma Hayek, her co-star in the movie, who wore a fully embroidered teal Gucci Premiere dress. Each dressed to the max for the occasion and I really hope they keep it up, and that Salma doesn’t let the team down.

Side note :- It just occurred to me that Blake and Salma starred in this movie together, and that Salma’s husband Francois-Henri Pinault is the CEO of PPR which owns the Gucci Group, this includes Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, [formerly] Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Balenciaga, Sergio Rossi, and Boucheron. I’m only speculating here but did someone put in a good word for a certain rising Hollywood actress…? Blake could get there on her own merit, as she did as the face of Chanel Mademoiselle handbags, but everyone benefits from having friends in high places! (Not to mention her BFF Florence Welch whose US tour wardrobe was also created by none other than Frida Giannini…

Blake Lively in Zuhair Murad Couture at the LA Premiere of Savages

Salma Hayek in Gucci Premiere at the LA Premiere of Savages

Next up was an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman, Blake turned up in a pretty blush pink Jenny Packham dress with an encrusted neckline and the most beautiful Christian Louboutins. She left in a similar Marchesa dress, I was slightly disappointed with this as the fit seems off but the hair and shoes seem to pull it together.

Blake Lively in Jenny Packham at the Late Show with David Letterman

Blake Lively in Marchesa at the Late Show with David Letterman

The second WOW moment so far has to be the red-hot Michael Kors suit she wore for an appearance on Good Morning America. The last time she wore a suit was an electric blue Elie Saab number, and although slightly less dramatic this red suit was classic and gorgeous without being overtly sexy. And yet again the Christian Louboutin shoes are to die for, as some may remember she is BFF’s with the shoe king and so I bet she has plenty of the red-soled wonders in her wardrobe for this tour.

Blake Lively in Michael Kors at Good Morning America

Next stop New York premiere, and I knew it wouldn’t be long before Blake called upon her newest Gucci partnership for her press tour. Blake donned a buttery yellow Gucci halterneck gown with turqoise drop earrings. I think this summery dress would have been suited to the LA premiere and then vice versa, but she still looks beautiful and the make up is much fresher and the pop of turquoise against the yellow is fantastic. Blake opted to tie her hair up on this occasion, I am particularly jealous of her fishtail plait and think it complements the neckline of her dress.

Cannes Film Festival 2012

The Cannes Film Festival held at the Palais des Festivals is majah. So majah that you will never see as many couture gowns on a red carpet than any other event in the whole year.

As we all know Cannes is a festival about film, but sometimes the fashion is more important especially when the film premiering is Madagascar 3…

The Opening Ceremony, which also doubled for the premiere of Wes Anderson’s new movie Moonrise Kingdom, saw L’Oreal girl Eva Longoria hit the red carpet in a breathtakingly beautiful Marchesa gown; my number one style crush, and serving as a jury member for the festival, Diane Kruger, looking elegant in a Giambattista Valli Couture mint green flowing chiffon dress; Eva Herzigova rocking some gorgeous jewels and Dolce & Gabbana gown, and Freida Pinto in a colourful Michael Angel dress with a candy pink skirt.

Now I wouldn’t normally talk Jane Fonda, but man she has the body of a 21-year-old athlete. Her days of keeping fit have not let her down at all. She looked striking in Atelier Versace at the opening ceremony and the premiere for the film Moonrise Kingdom.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear

I honestly don’t know how fashion editors, buyers, directors etc etc do a fashion week. I’ve struggled to keep up with all the shows and I’m sat on my arse in front of a computer scrolling through photographs from each show, and even then I have to make a selection of who I want to look at because it TAKES SO LONG. I always look at my favourite designers, the recognisable names and then pick a few random ones that usually end up been the better options!

New York Fashion Week, was a whole load of different, if that makes sense. There were some similar themes running through several shows, like a LOT of white, and in mostly silky sheer material which looked a dream, seen at Luca Luca, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. The material I mention was in practically every show, well every show that I looked at, it’s the perfect shimmery, sexy, slinky, swishy, silk material that I adore especially when you see it down the runway floating and folding on the model. I especially loved the DKNY show, I watched it livestream on Style.com and I felt like I was there (I pretended OKAY) the looks were light and airy with really nicepops of colour.

Colour was another big look, from pastel, sherbet, vivid, neon, rich, royal, sparkle and nude there wasn’t a show that didn’t pass by without a flash of the rainbow (well maybe apart from Ralph Lauren…). My favourite ‘colour’ shows were Jason Wu and Christian Siriano, Wu’s pastel pinks paired with crisp white and citron flashes of yellow were a dream, and Siriano’s burnt orange ball gown skirt was a delight.

Shape was sexy and tailored, peekaboo splits, peplum skirts or ballgown goodness. The recurring sexy tailoring was a particular favourite, pencil thin trousers in an array of colours, or the easiest way to do spring tailoring, shorts. Shorts galore! Simple style with a loose tee or sharp with a tux blazer, a great look to pull off if you pair the right shapes together. There were shift dresses from Victoria by Victoria Beckham her new line (not diffusion mind), there were full length red carpet amazing-ness, puff-tastic, dropped flapper style waists and some dripping in embellishment, case in point, Marchesa.

There were plenty of red-carpet looks that could be seen at future film premieres, gala’s and even award shows, one of my favourites was Ralph Lauren’s look 52. A simple white column dress with cobweb patterened jewel short sleeves and a high neck, I would very much like to see this on Emma Stone. Zac Posen’s collection exudes glamour and red carpet beauty, for someone to wear one of his gowns would be a show-stopping moment. And not forgetting, the queen of red carpet, Georgina Chapman…

My ULTIMATE look of the week and ULTIMATE model, has to go to Karlie Kloss in Prabal Gurung. Prabal Gurung’s show was the epitome of sexy and I also watched that livestream and couldn’t believe how good it was. Karlie Kloss just has this amazing walk and this smoldering eyebrow-arching pout that I am just drawn to, how can she look that good and be only 19 *sad face*.

Right I’m ready and raring to go for London Fashion Week, I expect this to be edgier as the Brit designers are apparently known for. Probably won’t like it as much… I can’t wait for Paris though.

Here’s the best of the rest….
