Cannes Film Festival 2014: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

From one amazing actress at Cannes to one amazing model, with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley we are always going to get the good stuff and I certainly wasn’t disappointed when it came to her Canne Film Festival wardrobe.

The first sighting of Rosie at Cannes was in a sporty Victoria Beckham Spring 2014 mini dress at the 25th Anniversary Magnum short film launch which the model/actress starred in. Any woman wearing Victoria Beckham will always look flawless and this was no exception, Rosie’s legs seem to go on forever and this dress was a perfect look for a daytime event especially with that backdrop!

Next up the glam factor was raised for the de Grisogono ‘Fatale in Cannes’ party, she looked super sexy in my favourite designers, Cushnie et Ochs. She wowed in a black signature cutout slit-to-the-thigh gown with sleek tresses and gigantic door knocker emerald green de Grisogono earrings.

For her first major red carpet appearance at Cannes, it was the turn of Rosie to have my jaw on the floor in the most beautiful Gucci Premiere gown at the premiere for The Search on Wednesday evening. Blake Lively has already demonstrated twice how stunning Gucci Premiere gowns are and Rosie further proved this looking statuesque in her strapless soft jade geometric patterned confection.

In between red carpet swishing, Rosie attended Roberto Cavalli’s annual yacht party in a black cutout body con dress by the designer himself. Of course she has a model body and so a simple black bodycon dress always reaches the next level with Rosie teaming it with Jimmy Choos and a clutch with softly blown out hair.

It was almost as if Rosie saved the best until last. In a sea of so much black this year at the Cannes Film Festival, Rosie stood out on the amfAR Cinema Against Aids Gala red carpet in a yellow Emilio Pucci grecian-inspired draped gown. What I love most about this look is it is so close to being risque, from the cutouts at the waist and breast to the open chained back, but Rosie works it perfectly (most likely because of her height) bringing the focus to the movement of the gown keeping her hair in soft waves and golden make up. Perfection of course.

Red Carpet: Emmys 2013

First time watching E! Live from the Red Carpet for the Emmys, after so many years of missing out not having Sky now I do and boy I thought I was in for a treat.

Only I wasn’t. Good god from the ‘glamazoom cam’ to the ‘mani cam’ to the ‘mani gram’ it sounded like I was in a hospital waiting room not watching E!’s red carpet coverage. It’s so ludicrously stupid watching walking skeleton Guiliana Rancic force celebrities to parade their hands in a miniature version of the red carpet to show of their manicures and then show off their shoes in the ‘stiletto cam’. Honestly.

Then the other half was Ryan Seacrest, who literally looked like he couldn’t give two shits about being there and didn’t have a clue about any of the celebrities he was interviewing apart from all the Modern Family cast that turned up as the Fug Girls said it was like a “sausage fest” apart from the funny moment Claire Danes booted Seacrest out of the way to fawn over her good friend Lena Dunham or the other moment Amy Poehler hijacked his Carrie Underwood interview and made it so much better.

Seacrest infuriated me even more when interviewing Bryan Cranston there in support of his amazingly popular show Breaking Bad and basically said he didn’t watch it, which fair enough not everyone does no beef, but then for Christina Hendricks to follow and they pass each other on the stairs and Seacrest says oh have you guys met this is Bryan. Seriously as a showbiz host surely this guy should know they starred together in Drive?!!!

Anyway the main thing that we didn’t get to see enough of in this two hour red carpet snorefest was the only reason I watched – THE DRESSES.

Initially my gut went towards Rose Byrne as my best dressed of the night, I love that she managed to make a bare midriff look sexy and classy at the same time in her on trend blush pink Calvin Klein dress. But then I remembered the first massive wow of the Emmys red carpet when Linda Cardellini stepped out wearing a beautifully structured grape coloured Donna Karan Atelier gown. It’s a draw between these two from sleek and simple versus structured and intricate.

Second on the list is Emilia Clarke’s Donna Karan Atelier gown, one that I was anticipating a lot as she’s always a stand out on the red carpet. I loved her white leaf detailed dress paired with a silver metal belt which I think made the look. Some people on Twitter likened her dress to shredded tissue, I think that’s a bit extreme! What I thought was interesting and what I didn’t spot at first is that her gown isn’t actually strapless but an illusion one-shoulder, it’s about time someone demonstrated how to match skin tone to the illusion panelling!

Emilia Clarke close far

Next up, Tina Fey looking just hot in one of my favourite colours. Her Narciso Rodriguez dress is basically very similar to what Sofia Vergara always wears but we don’t usually expect something like this from Tina Fey who tends to favour darker colours. Keeping things simple in the hair and beauty department and adding some nice bling I definitely think she was a stand out of the night.

The colour is probably why I like Alison Williams dress, but the reason she picked this plain and somewhat boring Ralph Lauren gown was because she “felt comfortable”. Isn’t fashion about taking a risk, and making those memorable lists? She’s just floating in the middle and the only reason her look is elevated is because she has stupidly uh-mazing hair.

Another floater is Kerry Washington. I really wanted her to be on the top, every dress she wears I compare to that stunning Giles gown she wore to the London premiere of Django Unchained, and this princess frothy frou-frou floral embellished chiffon right-off-the-runway Marchesa is so beneath that. There’s some rumours of an early pregnancy due to the slight empire line but I just think this is nice but I want more. She can give me more!

At first I really liked Claire Danes’ Armani Prive but that was because I was swept up in faux-bob-gate to notice her weird boobs, still the detail is beautiful. I don’t really know Julia Louis-Dreyfus that well so I kind of overlooked her, but her Monique Lhuillier is a little bit epic. I wish someone with bigger star power (in my eyes at least) had worn it. Anna Gunn, who is looking frighteningly skinny, did look great in her Romona Kevesa monochrome look which was definitely a winner’s dress as she picked up the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Breaking Bad.

And then there was Lena Dunham who I always expect to be on my worst dressed list because she refuses to choose anything that flatters her shape. Anyone else noticed that Prada just doesn’t do a good red carpet gown? Well Lena and Michelle Dockery both wore Prada and both dresses were hideous. Then there was Zosia Marmet who makes my list just for not knowing the difference between a custom gown and a gown that has already been shown in the Honor resort collection that is exactly the same as your dress (guuurrrl). And then January Ice Queen Jones who was boring and unfunny whilst being interviewed by Seacrest and wore a really dull Givenchy custom creation, her hair was nice though.

Oh I nearly forgot – the jaw droppingly handsome Kit Harington was there. Yum.

Beyonce does a Rihanna, cuts off all her hair

I don’t know how to feel about Beyonce removing her weave cutting off her hair.

She debuted her new pixie crop on Instagram with a few artsy images, at first I’m all like oh god what has she done. Then I’m all like, wait didn’t Rihanna just do this?

Beyonce may not have gone as far as Rihanna and let her natural curls shine through, she’s still kept it straight and relaxed, but I can’t help thinking it’s aged her just a little bit…

Don’t get me wrong, I worship Beyonce, some might say it’s getting a bit weird. But the new ‘do I’m not so sure of, just because I know that as soon as the next leg of her tour begins she’s going to have that weave put right back on so she can swish and head bounce along to her songs.

But this is by far the most drastic thing Beyonce has done in relation to her hair. Maybe she knew she needed to keep up with her peers and update herself.

Good god, now I know what all Miley Cyrus’ fans felt like when she cut her off. Maybe I will grow to like it if she sticks with it and rocks it like I know she can.

It’s all in the hairography…

Emma Watson People’s Choice Awards 2013

Is Emma Watson in a funk?

She walked the People’s Choice Awards 2013 red carpet in LA last night wearing a very familiar looking Peter Pilotto dress and shoes. Cast your memory back to the MTV Movie Awards in June of last year and there she is wearing an edgy Peter Pilotto dress with strikingly similar shoes.

And after a recently disappointing front cover on Marie Claire UK, I think it’s time Emma injected some life and excitement into her look. I know it’s hard to grow out a hairstyle, her dramatic pixie crop back in 2010 after Harry Potter ended won me over in the end but now she’s at the awful inbetween stage. Most stars would add extensions just to give their hair some va va voom, which I think would be a good idea for Emma as every time she appears on the red carpet their is always something lacking in her overall look.

Everyone knows she can do better than this. She needs to make a mark and really needs to shed that bubblegum image, come on Emma!

Time for change Brad Pitt.

Now there may be other things going on in the world right now that are really important, *ahem Obama vs. Romney*, but what pops into the forefront of my mind as footage for his latest movie is released:

Brad Pitt when are you going to cut your hair?

The phase of his current hairstyle is just as long as those luscious locks and I want a shake up from Brad. It’s not just Jennifer Aniston that has been stuck in a hairstyle rut for the past two decades, I’m worried about Brad he needs a shake up heading towards his 50th birthday.

Brad as he is now, and I know he can pull the hair style off but any longer and he may start looking like this again….

We do not want a repeat of this.

Remember his Meet Joe Black hotness? Slightly Beckham too.

Back to this please Brad.

Ashley Madekwe

I’ve got a massive new girl crush on Ashley Madekwe. Aside from being in Revenge, one of the best new TV shows around, she has impeccable fashion taste and style.

I just recently discovered her blog Ring My Bell and duly follow her on Twitter @smashleybell. There are plenty of looks of hers that I am ridiculously jealous of, and all those shoes absolute heaven!

I cannot help but want the Chanel lipstick in Rouge Allure #38 from the below image, it is fabulous dah-ling.

Green Lantern Review

I liked Green Lantern, I’m not entirely familiar with the lore of the comic book history so I couldn’t tell you what was right and what was entirely wrong. I’ll tell you what was right Ryan Reynolds, his star has been on the rise for so long always loitering in the background with B-movie comedies and heart-lighted romances now he’s hit the lead actor role and he did well as Hal Jordan.

His comedic style of acting is very similar in a lot of his movies, but it worked in Green Lantern, there were some moments where you had to laugh out loud it’s all about perfect delivery.

What I would say about the movie as a whole is that the beginning was slow, but slow in the fact it was trying to fill you in in the background of the story that an audience may not necessarily be familiar with so it was needed. But then the action seemed to jump quickly into him being the superhero and saving people and then boom the big-baddie Parallax invaded earth after being set free from it’s prison and then Hal Jordan saved the day.

It was almost too easy to guess what was going to happen, but then I suppose you get what you see on the package a classic superhero adventure movie not trying to disguise its purpose, to entertain and see a character come to life on the big screen.

I’ll move onto the other main reason I wanted to see this movie, Blake Lively. Another rising star, from her turn as Serena Van Der Woodsen on CW’s Gossip Girl, to her minor role in Ben Affleck’s fucking awesome movie The Town she is trying to come on leaps and bounds (and by dating an A-list Hollywood movie star ahem). The problem I have as much as I love her, her style, her hair, her legs, I couldn’t help but watch the Green Lantern and her playing test pilot Carol Ferris and seeing Serena Van Der Woodsen with dark hair and a nicer personality. There was no depth to her character she seemed to be an easy on the eye addition, someone to bring Hal Jordan back down to earth (literally) and to play the purpose of someone he loves and cares for so a villain can kidnap and hold ransom. Standard story line.

The villain who I mentioned earlier is Parallax, a former Guardian of the Green Lantern Corps who feeds on people’s fear. Hmm this sounds familiar… J K Rowling are you are fan of comic books? The weird creature that Parallax became was a floaty head cloaked in the skeletons of the people he consumed fear from, a big fat dementor in comic book form (those of you that haven’t read/seen Harry Potter, sod off somewhere else because you won’t know what I’m talking about). To me the villain seemed pretty unbeatable, like impossibly unbeatable, yet somehow the newest recruit of Green Lantern Corps defeated him using the sun and some energy formed into two aircrafts. What? Too easy. Ah well.

I’m not going to say this is the best movie ever, it doesn’t come to par with X-Men: First Class because it’s different and it’s DC not Marvel. I am looking forward to seeing where they go with this because it’s easily a 3-movie franchise. Definitely worth a sequel at least, especially after the genius turn from Mark Strong (one of the most underrated actors there is and he’s British) in the secret scene after the credits. We all knew he wanted the ring the Guardians made to try and defeat Parallax, a ring of pure fear but Sinastro didn’t get to wear it well until he slipped it on and turned his suit yellow… Ooo shocker! Oh and I forgot to mention Peter Sarsgaard, he was good, weird but good.
