Blushing brides: Kim Kardashian vs Poppy Delevingne

The only wedding I’ve written about on The Importance of Being Oreo was the royal wedding and that most beautiful Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton wedding dress.

But I can’t pass the opportunity to speak about the wedding of the year and that bespoke Givency wedding dress.

That’s right, the Kimye wedding. I’m only slightly ashamed to admit I watch The Kardashians, who gives a toss, it’s insane, crazy, mental, and a funny insight into the world’s vainest family. What’s not to love?!

There’d been mounting speculation on the designer Kim Kardashian would pick to make her fifth wedding gown, that privilege was awarded to fashion BFF Ricardo Tisci. The Givenchy designer made up for his Met Gala floral catastrophe with an undeniably exquisite lace confection complete with a cut out back – well it is Kim Kardashian after all…

With all the hoopla over the Kim Kardasian and Kayne West wedding in Florence, another celeb wedding was able to go pretty much under the radar. Although to be fair Poppy Delevingne had already wed her new hubby James Cook in London on May 16th, she had a second wedding in the gorgeous setting of Marrakech with a few of her closest and coolest celeb friends in attendance.

Poppy Delevingne had already stunned in a Chanel creation but managed to go even more hippyish with her second dress by designer and close friend Peter Dundas. The Emilio Pucci creative director fashioned a boho wedding dress for Poppy featuring floral appliques and that seemingly popular tunic style feature which turned into a super huge skirt. The temperatures in Marrakech are currently in their 30s so I’m guessing she had a bit of a sweat on carrying that about!

What I pose to you dear readers. Which dress do you prefer? Kim Kardashian’s Givenchy couture creation, classic with a modern twist? Poppy Delevingne’s first wedding gown, a heavily embellished Chanel dress and her retro side-parted hair or her second boho Pucci dress very much in keeping with the bride’s hippy personality.

Prince William and Kate Middleton look amazing.

Wow, Kate Middleton or rather the Duchess of Cambridge radiates with beauty in a gown by designer Jenny Packham. And THAT ring of course. I don’t think I even paid one bit of attention to what Prince William is wearing she looks that good. What a perfect party debut as a couple. (Images from Just Jared)

The Royal Wedding

I’m one of those people that becomes all patriotic for the day when something happens in the UK that makes you proud to be British. The Royal Wedding was a beautiful, happy occasion perfectly orchestrated by the family. We saw Prince William marry his sweetheart Kate Middleton, and all eyes were on the bride the whole time. The Duchess of Cambridge as Kate is now officially known, stepped out in a dress made by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen. It was what I had hoped for it was what everyone else had hoped for, that she would chose a British designer to take her from commoner to royal. And the dress was absolutely stunning, delicate, and perfect for the new princess and very reminiscent of Princess Grace as so many people commented.

The cake, amazing.

Just as exciting as the wedding itself and the arrival of the bride and groom and the extended family, was the arrival of the VIP guests most importantly the Beckhams. Almost royalty themselves (ha) Victoria and David arrived to their own fanfare (well I like to think they did), Victoria in her own custom dress from her AW ’11 line and David in Ralph Lauren Purple Label adorned with his OBE. As well as Tara Palmer-Tompkinson who looked lovley in all royal blue, and who escaped the radar Joss Stone, why was she there urgh.

The Royal Celebrity Couple

Tara Palmer-Tompkinson in all blue took away from her collapsed nose.

Anyway we have plenty of days ahead of us to see the royal wedding pictures, videos, and articles what i’m looking forward to is her first magazine cover… If she does one I hope as What Serena Saw pointed out that she also sticks to a British designer for her outfit.

So the next thing to look forward to is Monday, the MET Ball and the late Alexander McQueen who is being honoured, with an exhibition called Savage Beauty’. The world’s fashion elite are invited and I expect to see some amazing gowns, maybe not as amazing as Kate’s wedding dress but certainly many stunning creations.

Here's Coco Rocha's MET Ball invite. One lucky gal.

Jason Wu Fall 2011

I think I’ve fallen in love with the whole of the Jason Wu Fall 2011 Ready-to-wear collection, it’s impossible not to love the accents of lace that high-street retailers are bound to copy, the perfectly tailored cigarette pants and Lanivn-inspired flowing skirts. With hints of the 70’s, baroque detailed coats, and romantic pops of colour every look will soon be spotted on red carpets alike.
