Is it just me or was Cannes a bit of a let down this year?
I mean don’t get me wrong there were some epic dress moments, from Blake Lively who I posted about earlier and my favourite model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. There were some other moments which I’ll share with you momentarily, but overall there was a lot of black and only a few of those jaw-dropping moments.
Previous years have seen turns from my favourite Diane Kruger back in 2012, she wowed in nine amazing looks from couture to ready-to-wear, Sharon Stone had me excited for this year after some stunning looks from 2013 but she failed spectacularly in 2014, Nicole Kidman provided the first really wow look this year in Atelier Versace but she had a more impressive year on the jury in 2013, remember Eva Longoria’s Marchesa from 2012 no long trains this year but she still managed sexy glamour in her own way.
Here are my favourite looks from Cannes Film Festival 2014:
Nicole Kidman in Atelier Versace at the premiere of Grace of Monaco
Naomi Watts in an off-the-shoulder Marchesa
Jourdan Dunn in yellow Balmain
Jessica Chastain in the most perfect Atelier Versace
Izabel Goulet in a beautiful Emilio Pucci gown
Fredia Pinto in Oscar de la Renta

From one amazing actress at Cannes to one amazing model, with Rosie Huntington-Whiteley we are always going to get the good stuff and I certainly wasn’t disappointed when it came to her Canne Film Festival wardrobe.
The first sighting of Rosie at Cannes was in a sporty Victoria Beckham Spring 2014 mini dress at the 25th Anniversary Magnum short film launch which the model/actress starred in. Any woman wearing Victoria Beckham will always look flawless and this was no exception, Rosie’s legs seem to go on forever and this dress was a perfect look for a daytime event especially with that backdrop!

Next up the glam factor was raised for the de Grisogono ‘Fatale in Cannes’ party, she looked super sexy in my favourite designers, Cushnie et Ochs. She wowed in a black signature cutout slit-to-the-thigh gown with sleek tresses and gigantic door knocker emerald green de Grisogono earrings.

For her first major red carpet appearance at Cannes, it was the turn of Rosie to have my jaw on the floor in the most beautiful Gucci Premiere gown at the premiere for The Search on Wednesday evening. Blake Lively has already demonstrated twice how stunning Gucci Premiere gowns are and Rosie further proved this looking statuesque in her strapless soft jade geometric patterned confection.

In between red carpet swishing, Rosie attended Roberto Cavalli’s annual yacht party in a black cutout body con dress by the designer himself. Of course she has a model body and so a simple black bodycon dress always reaches the next level with Rosie teaming it with Jimmy Choos and a clutch with softly blown out hair.

It was almost as if Rosie saved the best until last. In a sea of so much black this year at the Cannes Film Festival, Rosie stood out on the amfAR Cinema Against Aids Gala red carpet in a yellow Emilio Pucci grecian-inspired draped gown. What I love most about this look is it is so close to being risque, from the cutouts at the waist and breast to the open chained back, but Rosie works it perfectly (most likely because of her height) bringing the focus to the movement of the gown keeping her hair in soft waves and golden make up. Perfection of course.

We’re only a third of the way through Cannes and so far it’s clear that the show has been stolen by actress Blake Lively.
She was announced as a L’Oreal girl in November of last year, a perfect match because of that beautiful long luscious blonde hair. And becoming a L’Oreal girl means automatic attendance to the Cannes Film Festival, their one sole job: to bring the glamour.
Blake wowed us at the opening ceremony which also served as the premiere for Nicole Kidman’s royal biopic Grace of Monaco. She wore a two-tone maroon Gucci Premiere (the fragrance which she is also the face of) fully pleated gown, that was absolutely flawless. I love the hair and make up on this occasion which just brings the look to another level, the messy high braided ponytail and smoky eye make up just left her smouldering with sexy. It reminded me of her amazing promo tour run for Savages a couple of years ago when she just knocked it out of the park time after time.

The following evening we saw Blake change it up completely in a Chanel Couture dress with that familiar nipped waist silhouette. We’ve already seen the likes of Keira Knightley and Rihanna wear this dress, but Blake gave it that extra bit of bedazzle in this iridescent version with sequins and that shawl draped around her arms. I can see how some may not particularly like this, but I think it marks a different look for Blake even though the ever-present plunge neckline is still there.

Her next appearance marked the most gasp-worthy, goosebump tingling red carpet moment ever for Blake Lively. She appeared in a stunning Gucci Premiere fifties inspired monochrome gown, it had that old Hollywood glamour feel with echoes of Julia Roberts’ Valentino Oscar gown from 2001 and Reese Witherspoon’s Armani from the 2011 Oscars. The piece de resistance of course was her arm candy, husband Ryan Reynolds. Considering it was his movie premiere he wasn’t to be left in the background, he looked very handsome in a white tie Gucci tuxedo that perfectly complemented Blake. I must say they are serious competition for my favourite Hollywood couple Diane Kruger and Josh Jackson.
I can’t wait for more from Blake Lively at Cannes!

Nicole Kidman was a grand jury member at the Cannes Film Festival this year, yet she’s barely been seen on the red carpet!
2012 grand jury member Diane Kruger wore a plethora of amazing gowns and couture and we were spoilt for choice, this year I was expecting some fabulous looks from Kidman because Cannes is the place to go all out and really do glamour which I thought would make a nice change from the column dresses she always favours.
And to be fair the times she has been seen on the red carpet they have been stunning, it’s just a shame there wasn’t more!
At the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival, Nicole Kidman wore one of my favourite Dior Couture gowns from the Spring 2013 collection. The floral applique dress suited Nicole down to the ground, and the light coral pumps with pulled back hair perfected the look.

Nicole’s next look was her close friend and favoured designer L’Wren Scott, the gown featured a blue and red leaf pattern with a train that suited the statuesque actress perfectly. Worn with matching black cuffs and a bouffant ‘do Nicole oozed glamour.

The rumour was this Valentino Couture gown that Nicole chose to wear to the premiere of Nebraska was the gown that Anne Hathaway discarded for the Oscars. Remember when Valentino sent out a press release saying Anne would be wearing the designer and then she turned up to the red carpet in that god awful Prada gown? Well it’s believed this is what she was supposed to wear! And Nicole looks stunning, her faux bob hair with those drop earrings really pair well with that high neck. Beautiful.

I was always going to be a lover of a big glossy blockbuster movie adapted from a classic novel. I do admit, however, I’m only halfway through F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby after giving myself the task to read it before it was released, so I’m not entirely sure of how it ends.
Baz Luhrmann’s latest extravaganza looks set to be his biggest and best movie since Moulin Rouge and not forgetting the beautiful Romeo+Juliet. I mean don’t get me wrong he has had other projects in between, such as Australia, it’s just those two movies are what he’s known for.
With Leonardo DiCaprio the leading man, images of his perfectly portrayed Romeo flash before my eyes, but now he’s left his boyish charms behind and is the ruggedly handsome man playing the titular character, Jay Gatsby. DiCaprio stars alongside Tobey McGuire, whom I’ve always felt kind of blends into the background so it will be interesting to see how he plays his character Nick Carraway; Carey Mulligan (who I find really annoyingly wet) the flapper girl and original love of Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan, who is now married to big bad Joel Edgerton’s Tom Buchanan.
There are some big name stars in this movie but it will be all eyes on DiCaprio for me, I genuinely love the anticipation that comes with a DiCaprio movie and I’ve been dying for The Great Gatsby release ever since it got pushed back from a Christmas 2012 release date to May 16, of this year.
With the movie set to open the Cannes Film Festival, I am dying to see who will be walking that glamourous red carpet. Jay-Z is at the helm of the movie’s original soundtrack, and we’ve already heard a taster of what the music will be like so I am expecting Beyonce to accompany him if they attend. And I am expecting big things from Carey Mulligan red carpet wardrobe, we know that Muiccia Prada designed her Gatsby costumes so I would imagine the press tour to be full of high-end pieces with dash of couture thrown in for good measure.
Here’s the new full trailer for The Great Gatsby, featuring original music from Florence + The Machine, Lana del Ray, and Beyonce and Andre 3000’s (some may say) controversial Back to Black cover:
