According to the White House Correspondent’s Association website it was established in 1914 and was formed by a group of journalists as a form of liasion between the press and the president.
What intrigues me the most about the association is the annual dinner it holds, an extravagant affair full of the biggest names in entertainment. Every president since Calvin Coolidge has attended as well as numerous celebrities over the years. It’s basically a moment in time where journalists are in the same room as the celebrities the majority of them write about, how strange that must be. The Washington Post pointed out how Sean Penn and Scarlett Johansson confirmed their much talked about status as a couple by disappearing for a “cig break” in the middle of the dinner and leaving with each other as the evening ended, Johansson wearing Penn’s suit jacket.
Kim Kardashian was there, an invited guest in the same room as the president. Don’t get me wrong gorgeous girl but famous for being famous, she had Justin Bieber following her around no doubt with those puppy dog eyes, and Jessica Simpson was there in a canary yellow dress looking decidedly plump. Television stars, Anna Paquin, Steven Moyer, Ryan Kwanten, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were in attendance, who to be fair is passionately involved in campaigning for a better America so fair enough, and with those beautiful blue eyes well delicious.
Basically anybody and everybody was there, including Donald Trump, who was at the butt of President Obama’s very funny jokes. Obama mentioned how he thought Trump had plenty of experience with tough decision-making after firing Gary Busey from his reality show Celebrity Apprentice. And after Obama released his birth certificate last week confirming her was in fact born in Hawaii, not Kenya as Trump suggested, he hit back saying Trump could now focus on the serious issues, from whether the moon landing actually happened to “where are Biggie and Tupac?”
