MET Gala 2013 ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’

When the theme of this year’s Costume Institute Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET Gala) was announced as ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ I was excited. This would be an actual event with costumes, surely?

Oh of course not, this is the fashion world dah-ling, couture has to be the order of the day and if Anna Wintour is the head of the chair organising this shindig then you must obey!

This would definitely be a chance for the Brits to shine on the red carpet, punk originated from London surely we are the ones who truly know how to do punk. So it is pretty disappointing to see, then, certain Brit celebrities throwing on a studded leather jacket and calling it an ode to punk Sienna Miller…

There were rumours abound in the lead up to the MET Gala that female celebrities were worried about not looking ‘pretty’ and didn’t want to be too edgy for fear of ending up on that unforgiving worst dressed list. This is probably the only event where you could go for that outlandish look and get away with it all in the name of punk.

Anna Wintour on the other hand attended a different MET Gala, her invite included the sub text ‘punk also means floral’. What person could possibly interpret floral Chanel Couture with even a possible edge of punk? She even shoehorned the pregnant Kim Kardashian into that god awful floral Givenchy floral curtain. Kim K is trying so hard to please everyone around her she really appears as though she hasn’t got a mind of her own, I feel sorry for her because Kanye just seems like he’s regretting his choice of baby mamma…

Those who I favoured on the red carpet at the MET Gala are the ones who embraced the theme of the punk:

Anne Hathaway, after the huge disappointment of the Oscars, she by far was my favourite look of the night. Wearing sheer black Valentino, she made the look super edgy by dying her hair peroxide blonde and slicking it back with a messy quiff. As soon as I saw the full look this was what I wanted, what I was expecting on the red carpet. Absolutely 10/10, the naughty boob flashing, the cut out shape and just clear sexiness of the whole look was Sharon Stone uh-may-zing. You go girl.

Another person who embodied the drama was Nicole Richie, she’s yet to truly let me down on a red carpet and her somewhat simple embellished white custom Topshop gown was accessorised with vampy lipstick and a shock of white hair. I think the punk horror look totally works.

At first glance Sarah Jessica Parker is wearing a voluminous patterned Giles gown, but scan to the top and she is adorned with a custom made Philip Treacy mohawk inspired head piece. It is simply jaw-dropping. And only something that SJP could work so perfectly, she later revealed her thigh high laced boots which just added to punk glam factor. Well done SJP, you have been reborn!

Elizabeth Banks was the guest of Brian Atwood so her super short Versace gold tuxedo jacket perfectly showcased her amazing fringed heels. This is the definition of glam punk, gold gold and sexy.

Nina Dobrev never fails to amaze me on the red carpet, there are some looks that I like more that others, but she always comes out on the best dressed list everytime. This Monique Lhuillier creation gives Nina the punk attitude, and she was one of the few that wore trousers, I like the fact that it came with the detachable tulle skirt because it was still high glamour but allowed her to party on without it at the MET after party still looking fierce.

Oh Beyonce, for the second year running the star chose a Givenchy Couture gown and yet another showstopper. I can see this dress been like marmite for some, I love the train of fire it is matches her personality perfectly, the bustier is super tight but the snakeskin material just makes it even more dramatic. She also chose to wear gloves similar to Kim K’s design but by showing her décolletage it allowed for a break in the heavy pattern, and her wavy tresses and smoky make up were the perfect addition.

I’m adding Emma onto this list simply because it is not a short printed mini dress. Yes there are still cutouts but she looks so different here, I would have liked to have seen some more attitude in her make up and shoes but this Prabal Gurung gown is a great graduation from red carpet princess.

Of all the people on the guest list we knew Florence Welch would bring in for the Brits, she has always worked a gothic edge to her red carpet dressing and it worked well here. Her Givenchy Couture fringed and velvet gown is dramatic, not necessarily punk but definitely chaotic, and her fiery red hair makes the whole look stand out.

Diane Kruger went that extra step and added a pink dip to the end of her blonde ponytail, it elevates her look along with her dark smoky make up. The Chanel Couture gown with overlay is certainly better than her purple feathered Prada gown from last year and she proved that the Chanel collection wasn’t all flowers like Anna Wintour’s dress did. Top effort, and as always had the perfect accessory with her in Joshua Jackson.

Ever since Miley Cyrus chopped off her hair, she’s been channelling the grungy punk look. She’s a young girl not afraid of pushing the fashion boundary and so she shouldn’t be, I hate all those naysayers out there that hated on her for cutting her hair off just like they did with Karlie Kloss why do people have such an issue with short hair not being attractive or sexy?! Her Marc Jacobs dress skimmed Miley’s very toned body it was still glamourous with the added punk jewellery and her spiked up hair. The hair might not have been to everybody’s taste and she could have benefitted from it being slicked back but who cares she took a risk at a punk themed event!

I really like Jaime King’s custom Topshop suit, when I first saw her I thought she looked ten years younger maybe it’s something to do with those hair extensions and her model good looks. Jaime has such fun with fashion she never sticks to the same thing so I enjoyed seeing her in this satin trouser suit with a lace bodice top underneath. Topshop do great red carpet looks, if the rest of their guests including my favourite Ashley Madekwe in what she called punk mermaid, and even donned a black bob wig to make it all edgy.

At first when I saw Carey Mulligan in her Balenciaga dress, I thought it wasn’t enough but then as you see all the other stars and their interpretations on what punk is Carey fits in perfectly. Her knee length gown with a safety pin attached at the lapel worked with the understated cut outs on the side. I do think though that as someone who has a massive movie coming out that she shouldn’t have let Anne Hathaway upstage her.

I really can’t make my mind up on Cameron Diaz’s Stella McCartney gown. I’m like a magpie to this colour, I love it. At first when I saw a picture I thought she looked a bit like a nun, but then after seeing the back and studying it a bit more I do think it is a very original creation which Stella does so well when making custom creations for her friends especially with the addition of that spiked gold belt. So I like it but I kind of don’t.

The back view of the dress which is more like a cape than fully covered.

And then there was Madonna (aka Hilary Devey). Only she would translate punk to mean HOT MESS. She rocked up late to the MET Gala red carpet in Givenchy, but not just any Givenchy a checked studded jacket with horrible gloves, horrible ripped fishnet tights, with horrible suspenders, a horrible wig, and horrible shoes.

And as far as I’m aware, nobody wore Alexander McQueen I though some of their creations would have definitely appeared on this red carpet without a doubt even if  they did dedicate the 2011 gala to him.

Best of the rest:

My Best Dressed: 2012

A whole year in red carpet, street style, movie premieres, and film festival looks is hard to sift through. It’s made a little easier when you trawl through everyone else’s best dressed lists and agree or disagree with what they have picked.

Last year I somehow managed to pick my top five best looks rather than my best dressed of the year, so this year it’s been a little more difficult because I still want my favourite looks, those stand out dresses that can never be competed with, but then there are celebrities out there who have just excelled throughout the year it would be difficult to pick just one look.

10. Nina Dobrev

Nina Dobrev topped my Best Dressed of 2011 with her showstopping Donna Karan at the 2011 Emmys. She made my top ten list this year with her electric blue Elie Saab dress she wore in Cannes to the amFar Gala. She’s had a great year, promoting the brilliant movie Perks of Being a Wallflower co-starring Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Ezra Miller, with other red carpet hits including a red Reem Acra and a beautiful Monique Lhuillier gown.

9. Ginnifer Goodwin

Ginnifer Goodwin is one of those stars that is always under the radar  but looking back over 2012 she has made plenty of best dressed lists with some crazy beautiful looks and not to mention she has the best pixie cut in the business. Not one to shy in the background my favourite from Ginnifer is a tie between her bright pink Roksanda Illincic dress she wore right at the beginning of the year at the People’s Choice Awards and her Monique Lhuillier gown she wore to the Emmy Awards, her other looks include a stunning feather Gucci dress she wore to the LACMA Art and Film Gala and another orange Monique Lhuillier that she chose for the MET Gala.

8. Emma Stone

You can’t help but love Emma Stone, she’s funny and pretty and she’s kissed Ryan Gosling, a lot. She had a good run on the press tour for The Amazing Spiderman this summer with my favourite look on the red carpet at the Paris premiere in a stunning Gucci gown, she wowed in Elie Saab at the UK premiere and also wore a Chanel look. She also knows how to do pretty as she wore a candy pink Valentino creation to the Annual ELLE Women in Hollywood event.

7. Blake Lively

She’s one of my style crushes and I love Blake, she’s had a fantastic year; marrying the man of my dreams Ryan Reynolds, being named the face of Gucci Premiere, Gossip Girl finally ending (and getting fake married in Georges Chakra Couture) and a great red carpet run for her film Savages which co-stars Taylor Kitsch and Ryan Taylor-Johnson. It was one of the best jaw-dropping moments of 2012 when Blake arrived on the LA red carpet looking all Veronica Lake-esque with tumbling blonde curls in a curve-hugging sexy Zuhair Murad gown, she continued to wow with a Michael Kors red hot suit, a lemon flowing Gucci dress and two beautiful Jenny Packham dresses when appearing on television. I would have included her wedding dress in this list but unfortunately no images have been released of her Marchesa creation just a small subtle hint…

6. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence is fantastic, normally I just judge celebrities by what they wear and if I don’t like it then see ya. But she is genuinely funny, and nice, and just a typical girl who has to be told to watch her language and be careful about what she says because her brain-to-mouth filter doesn’t work. You have to read the excerpt of her interview with Rolling Stone magazine from the April 2012 editoiin because it had me giggling and wishing she would be my friend and the cover is just smoking hot. Her red carpet run for The Hunger Games was a little hit and miss but the gold Prabal Gurung dress had me drooling, it is one of my favourite dresses of the year without a doubt, hence being on my best dressed list… But there was a sexy Tom Ford gown and another gold dress by Ralph Lauren she wore for the UK premiere that made up for the poor latter half of the year where she made Rachel Zoe her stylist who dressed her in that godawful Dior suit.

5. Gwyneth Paltrow

I’ve struggled with where to place Gwyneth because the white Tom Ford gown she wore to the Oscars was a great moment, and it wouldn’t have been as amazing if she hadn’t worn the cape which put her straight to the top of the best dressed at the awards ceremony.  She wore one of her good friend Stella McCartney’s cutout gowns to the Grammys which were seriously popular this year and even wore another white Tom Ford dress proving a good designer partnership always works well for the red carpet. My other favourite look of Gwynnie’s was the sexy Michael Kors cutout dress she wore to the designers’ Golden Heat Gala and making another of my best dressed lists this time at the MET Gala in a super short Prada creation.

4. Kate Hudson

I’ve always liked Kate Hudson, ever since How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and that amazing yellow dress (which just so happens to be in the V&A Hollywood exhibit in London) she knows how to dress for her body. She can look sexy but it’s always so understated and relaxed, her wavy long blonde hair is never over done which goes a long way into making her a goddess on the red carpet. She hasn’t been super busy this year, but the moments Kate has had on the red carpet have been memorable especially the red Prabal Gurung she wore to the amFAR Inspiration Gala in LA in October. The Atelier Versace gown she wore at the Venice Film Festival for her movie The Reluctant Fundamentalist was simply breathtaking, the white Alexander McQueen at the Toronto Film Festival and the purple Jenny Packham gown packed just as much of a punch when she attended The White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in April.

3. Keira Knightley

She had her work cutout this year on press tours for Anna Karenina, A Dangerous Method and Seeking A Friend for the End of the World. Her crowning moment was in the Elie Saab Couture gown for the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of Anna Karenina, but I equally liked the mint green custom Erdem gown she wore at the LA premiere of AK it was a real change from the princess dresses she had been wearing. Keira also donned a Chanel Couture gown for the UK premiere of AK, Valentino for two premieres and two Burberry Prorsum dresses proving to be the princess of designer couture.

2. Elizabeth Banks

Maybe you’re thinking huh? But this actress had the best press tour for a movie this year, The Hunger Games’ actress really channelled her character Effie Trinket and brought a rainbow of colours and accessories to the red carpet. Colour is so powerful, and Elizabeth is definitely not scared of yellows, oranges, and greens proving that being daring and taking a risk is much more fun than sticking to trends. And for someone whose co-star was 21-year-old Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth did sexy without looking like she was trying to compete she knows what suits her and she did it with aplomb. From the beginning of the year at the Oscars to The Hunger Games red carpet and all the other bits in between Elizabeth Banks is deserving of second place.

1. Diane Kruger

I think as soon as she appeared on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival for the Opening Ceremony in May I knew there would be no other person that could top the following red carpet dresses that Diane wore for the event. Even beforehand she started the year in Prada at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Erdem in Paris, Giambattista Valli at the Berlin Film Festival, Jason Wu, and then in Calvin Klein for The Oscars. She stepped out in a purple Prada dress for the MET Gala that still has me on the fence, and then all of her fabulous Cannes looks from Giambattista Valli Couture, Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, Chanel, Calvin Klein, Prabal Gurung and the best of them all the Vivienne Westwood. For this she takes the top spot on my best dressed of 2012, I’m pretty biased when it comes to Diane Kruger anyway and she has the best accessory in Joshua Jackson which I’m sure sways it everytime she steps out with him. May another 2013 see Diane show everyone in Hollywood just how it is done.

The Best of The Importance of Being Oreo 2012

As I’m currently compiling my best dressed of the year lists, I thought I’d look through my blog posts from this past year and pick out my favourite ones. It’s hugely self indulgent, but as I was looking back there were so much stuff I’d forgotten I’d written about especially in the earlier part of the year.

I’ve picked one from each month, so if you find yourself currently bored of wrapping presents have a look! Check back later in the week to see who made my Best Dressed of 2012.

January: Shailene Woodley vs Jennifer Lawrence - The two actresses at similar places in their careers, Jennifer Lawrence has had another great year with The Hunger Games and The Silver Linings Playbook.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dolce & Gabbana at the Independent Spirit Awards 2011 and Shailene Woodley in Honor at the 2012 AFI Awards.

February: Spring Couture - a look at my favourite couture pieces, Elie Saab has to be Being Oreo’s most featured designer!

March: New Yorkshire Music: Seafret - I interviewed this up and coming Yorkshire duo earlier this year, I predict big things for Seafret in the next few years!

Seafret Blog

April: Dawson’s Creek possible reunion - This topic will not die down, and now that Katie Holmes has been released from her marriage who knows what the future holds?!

Dawsons Creek

May: Christina Ricci at the MET Gala - Christina Ricci was a standout at the MET Gala for me this year, the dress is super quirky but who would guess that she is only 5″1 she knows how to werq it!

June: Blake Lively Savages press tour and Diane Kruger at Cannes 2012 - It was too difficult to pick just one post for June, especially when two of my favourite style crushes had fabulous runs on their respective red carpets. Blake Lively was back to her amazing self promoting Savages and Diane Kruger did a fantastic job as judge at the Cannes Film Festival with an array of couture.

July: Kate Upton wants to enjoy life and eat - Kate Upton seems to have made an impression on everyone this year, she must be one of the most controversial models to grace the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue ever, all because she likes to eat apparently.

September: It’s September again… Television time! - I like my American television, and I think this is a great guide for those who want to know what imports to watch when they appear on British tellyboxes. This year Fringe comes to an end, which I am very upset about as that will mean Joshua Jackson needs to get another job lined up sharpish!

October: Emma Stone and that Maje coat - One of my most popular posts this year, Emma Stone worked the hell out of that coat.

November: A zombie romance for Valentine’s Day: Warm Bodies - This is on my 2013 film list already, really looking forward to seeing it and will get round to reading the book if it’s not too scary!

December: Twilight: Kristen Stewart - I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Kristen Stewart, I make myself laugh at how shocked I was she was named Best Dressed of 2012 by Glamour just a few months into the year! This is a round up of her best Twilight red carpet looks with an extra addition or two, but her street style will always keep her on my worst dressed list!

This technically isn't related to Twilight, but Kristen in Reem Acra on the Cannes Red Carpet for Cosmopolis is one of my all time favourite Kristen looks.

Diane Kruger at Cannes 2012

The golden girl of Cannes this year was of course Diane Kruger, a member of the jury for this year’s prestigious film festival and wearer of some of the most gorgeous gowns seen so far this year.

Never one to let anyone down she opened attended the jury photo call on the first day of Cannes in a burgundy Versus Fall 2012 pleated mini dress with strap details, only Diane could pull off a short sexy dress for the daytime and the bright blonde hair and flawless make up makes it a beautiful look.

Diane made a dreamy return to the Cannes red carpet in an ethereal mint green Giambattista Valli Couture dress for the Moonrise Kingdom premiere and the Opening Ceremony.

On to another day and another dress, this time Diane wore Calvin Klein to celebrate the Women in Film event sponsored by the brand. I love the coral textured fabric of the dress and the shape and admittedly there is a lot of the twins on show there, but I think because Diane doesn’t always do blatant sexy she gets away with the squished cleavage look and those white sandals purely because she has my favourite boy Joshua Jackson on her arm once again (and nixing those pesky rumours they had split).

Diane Kruger in Calvin Klein Fall 2012 at the Women in Film event.

For the Haiti Carnival Benefit hosted by Armani, Diane wore one of her favourite designers Jason Wu. I first fell in love with her style after she wore that Jason Wu red dress at the CFDA’s a few years ago and here she is in, as of yet unpresented, resort look. The dress has many different aspects to it, the black slip underlay with a signature embellished collar, and the navy chiffon draping that ties into the black waist, I think the navy and black is what jars me especially after seeing Karlie Kloss in a magenta pink dress of a similar design at the MET Gala and Jess Stam at the CFDA Awards in a cobalt blue version. I do love the ear jewellery though and of course there’s Josh…

My absolute favourite look of Diane’s at Cannes is the Vivienne Westwood gown she wore to the Amour premiere. It shimmered and oozed with old Hollywood glamour, from the sidewswept waves, the delicate drop earrings, to the silver box Jimmy Choo clutch, that waist-narrowing corset and the signature draped cleavage. An absolute 10/10 dripping in rose-gold sequins.

Diane Kruger in Vivienne Westwood at the Amour premiere. A silver version of this dress will set you back £2,535 on net-a-porter…

Diane wore a custom-made Nina Ricci gown to the Killing Them Softly Cannes premiere, a white drop-waist gown with feather detail and skirt. At first glance I immediately thought this was Chanel Couture, but no no Diane was saving the Chanel for the amFAR Gala later in the week. I like this dress, but I can’t get past the huge corsage on her shoulder, I know it adds a soft pop of colour but it’s just so big especially considering how delicate and detailed her hair is. Josh looked exceedingly handsome in Lanvin.

Diane in custom-made Nina Ricci at the Killing Them Softly Cannes premiere.

A hop, skip and a jump over to Monaco saw Diane and Josh attend the Nights in Monaco Gala Fundraiser in Monte Carlo. She wore a Prabal Gurung Fall 2012 gown, with an ostrich feather skirt and amazing gold applique detailing over the bust on a sheer top. This was really an outstanding look and the Nicholas Kirkwood for Prabal Gurung shoes tops off an amazing night for Diane as it was reported that Josh bought a £45,000 necklace for his lady. Annoyingly nearly every media outlet I read reported that it was an engagement gift, but if anybody knows this couple is that they’ve repeatedly said they see no need in getting married. Diane was previously married to Guillaume Canet for five years before they divorced and he went on to have a child with actress Marion Cotillard.

I love the idea of Chanel, it’s a luxurious brand and I will always have a 2.55 handbag on my wishlist, but whenever I see the looks from a runway show I always struggle to like any of them. Maybe I’ll like an accessory or a detail but sometimes the looks are so out there that I cannot picture them on the red carpet. That is where celebs like Diane come in to display the looks in their own unique way, time and time again I’ve seen a head to toe Chanel look and have been gobsmacked at how different it really looks in person than on the runway. The Krug wore a dress from the Resort 2013 collection that had just been presented, it pays to have friends in high places especially if your bessie is Karl.

Diane Kruger in Chanel Resort 2013 at the amFAR Cinema Against Aids Gala 2012

Diane’s Cannes run ended on a high with Christian Dior Couture. This dress seemed to get bit of love and hate from the critics, but if you look at every look from Diane there is barely a look that is the same she knows how to mix it up and never sticks to one look aka Jennifer Aniston and her LBD’s, Taylor Swift and her gold/neutral sparkles, and Kristen Stewart and the bedraggled look (ok I give her the Reem Acra gown). Diane’s Dior Couture sleevless gown with a Cinderella-style structured skirt was a great end to the festival, it wasn’t by any means my favourite but I definitely didn’t hate it at all.

Diane Kruger in Christian Dior Couture at the Cannes Film Festival Closing Ceremony and Therese Desqueyroux premiere.

Absolutely outstanding performance from Diane Kruger at Cannes this year, I can’t wait to see her back on the red carpet next year and for the rest of this year, as always my #1 Style Crush!

Golden Globes 2011: A disappointment?

I was not impressed this year, out of all the celebrities that attended there were very few dresses that could be considered best dressed. The Golden Globes are the awards where actresses are expected to go out of their comfort zone be a bit more daring seeing as though it’s not as restricting as the Oscars, many chose to stick to styles they’d worn before, black, or plain designs. I was expecting a real extravaganza and what I got was disappointment.

I was really looking forward to seeing what Michelle Williams wore, nominated for Best Actress I thought she would pull out all the stops. In the run up to the Golden Globes, Williams has been sporting a uniform of lace, knee length 50′s skirts, and cap-sleeves, there was a break from that at the Critics’s Choice Awards where she wore a pretty white Balenciaga number. It seems she wanted to stick with the pretty and went for a daisy floral print dress by Valentino, to me its unflattering and a bit plain, more suited to a casual dinner than a fancy awards ceremony.  A big fat 2/10 because I like her hair and make up.

Michelle Williams in Valentino

Natalie Portman beat out Williams to win Best Actress for her role in The Black Swan, a deserved award as the film is absolutely fantastic. Surprisingly Portman didn’t wear Dior or Rodarte as tipped but instead chose a pale pink Viktor & Rolf gown that I really didn’t like. The big red rose at the empire line of her dress just didn’t sit well on top of her pregnant belly, but at least she was showing it off. A 3/10 for the cute baby bump but overall I don’t think the pink and red colour clash sits well.

Someone that didn’t disappoint me was Emma Stone, nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy unfortunately lost out to Annette Benning, wore a peach backless dress by Calvin Klein. Not a designer that I would think of for the fancy red carpet but works really well, a super streamlined dress with ice blonde locks and a sexy back is a good look in my books, although Emma may have gone a little overboard on the fake tan. A definite 9/10, an actress who is a strong player in the style stakes.

Winner of Best Performance in a Mini Series for her work in Temple Gradin, Clare Danes also wore Calvin Klein Collection. A luminous pink halter neck gown, really spiced up the red carpet amongst a sea of black and beads. Again a really flawless look from Calvin Klein, Clare was deserving of her win. An 8/10 for pink perfection.

Emerald green was a popular colour with both Angelina Jolie and Mila Kunis wearing Atelier Versace and Vera Wang respectively. It has being reported that Angie laughed when she heard of her nomination in the Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical for The Tourist. Presenter Ricky Gervais threw down when he said of the rumour about the nominations for The Tourist, “I’d like to crush this ridiculous rumor that the only reason The Tourist was nominated was so that the foreign press could hang out with Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That was not the only reason; they also accepted bribes.”

Angie did look stunning in colour a definite competitor for best dressed of the night, and Mila Kunis looked gorgeous in her Vera Wang gown but I can’t help feeling a little underwhelmed by her look I was expecting something a little more extraordinary. An 8/10 for Angelina and a 6/10 for Mila, maybe she’s waiting to wow at the Oscars?

Two very different actresses sported blunt fringes one was a success the other not so much. Sandra Bullock, on presenting duties this year looked great with her blunt hair cut and Jenny Packham dress, where as Olivia Wilde’s hairdo was more limp and lacklustre but at least her ridiculously over the top Marchesa princess ball gown made up for it. A 7/10 for previous big winner Bullock,  a poor 5/10 for Wilde who was clearly wishing she was sat atop a castle than presenting the award for Best Foreign Film alongside the delicious Rob Pattinson.

Then we have the girls with the sex factor, Halle Berry and January Jones. Both actresses not afraid to flash the flesh, they wowed with their barely there dresses. Halle in a black Nina Ricci dress, channelling the underwear as outwear trend it was daring and maybe a little trashy but totally worth it to get those column inches. And then January in THAT red Versace dress from the Spring 2011 RTW collection, she suits the dress and January definitely gets my vote as best dressed of the night.

Halle Berry gets an 8.5/10 in Nina Ricci

January Jones 9/10 in Versace

There’s always going to be celebrities who shunned their stylist, aka Helena Bonham Carter (has she ever had one?), the quirky actress wore a Vivienne Westwood  gown with mismatched shoes. Who else could really get away with it? Glamour magazine online even say “Fab rather than faux pas” pah yeh right. Then we have Christina Hendricks, maybe I have it out for her but her vivid red Romona Keveza dress with a massive shoulder ruffle made me wonder where she began and the dress ended! And Julianne Moore I have no words for your Lanvin mess, one sleeved with a necklace tucked under the collar it doesn’t even begin to make sense!

Other worthy mentions go to Leighton Meester who wore a thigh-slashed chiffon Burberry Prorsum gown with the best accessory of the night, a gold box clutch complete with a hanging tassle. Anne Hathaway in a very backless Armani Prive gold sequinned dress with power shoulders and Camilla Belle was spotted at the InStyle/Warner Bros Golden Globes after party in a silver Giorgio Armani dress. Also congratulations goes to Colin Firth for his Best Actor win for his role in The King’s Speech, hopefully a sign of what’s to be expected at the Oscars, and to David Fincher for Best Director and Best Film for The Social Network.
