BRAND NEW Trailer: Hunger Games Catching Fire

The very first thing I did this morning was watch the brand new teaser trailer that debuted at the MTV Movie Awards in the US last night.

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson in a still from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

The Hunger Games Catching Fire is the next movie in the trilogy (or quadrilogy if the last movie is to be split) and sees our heroine Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark return to their district amongst fanfare, but then as they go on a tour of the other districts the beginning of the uprisings is evident.

Something must be done about them and President Snow (Donald Sutherland) insists they be killed off. The trailer is dark a great representation of what the second book in the series is like, the people of the districts are desperate and they use Katniss as a beacon of hope which in turn puts her life and those closest to her in great danger.

Coachella: Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson

I like to call these two love birds the King and Queen of Coachella, they are there every year looking perfectly loved up and just super cool.

I didn’t think Diane Kruger would be attending considering she’s been promoting her latest movie The Host, but lo and behold there she was attending H&M Loves Music Coachella party alongside her long-term boyfriend and my favourite TV star Joshua Jackson.

I mean who else could pull off slouchy black suede boots (£59.99) and a Mick Jagger tee? A pop of lip colour with matching earrings and some jazzy graphic print shorts (£12.99) it’s no wonder her street style is so sought after. (All from H&M)

Trailer: Romeo and Juliet (2013)

The problem with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is that the story is so well-known, to do another movie version means it’s not going to be that much different from any other versions already out there.

The most popular – and one of my favourite ever movies – Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet is the benchmark and I think it would be pretty hard to beat.

Italian director Carlo Carlei is the latest to take on Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers with screenplay from Downton Abbey scribe and Oscar winner Julian Fellowes. According to IMDb this is Carlei’s first foray into a big production, previously directing foreign-language and television movies.

Hailee Steinfield and Douglas Booth

Hailee Steinfield and Douglas Booth

The trailer itself is basically the whole movie, it puzzles me why some companies do this because it doesn’t necessarily entice an audience to want to pay to watch something when they know the story so well that it is laid out in the trailer. However, Romeo and Juliet was filmed entirely on location in Italy, just like the original Oscar-winning Franco Zeffirelli version so what will be different about this movie?

Well for starters the main cast are a mixture of veterans and hot newbies; you have Douglas Booth as Romeo cheekbones and eyebrows at the forefront, the very young already Oscar-nominated Hailee Steinfield as Juliet, Golden Globe winner Damien Lewis with a super dodgy haircut as Lord Capulet, Oscar-nominated and the simply great Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence; along with the dashing Ed Westwick (most familiarly known as Chuck from Gossip Girl) as the main antagonist Tybalt.

Can this fresh cast bring something new to the Shakespeare tale that has been done so many times before?

Will the controversy surrounding the sex scene between 16-year-old Steinfield and a 20-year-old Booth be a hindrance or overlooked for the authenticity?

Only the box office totals will tell us the answer after it is released in October later this year.

Shopping: Next

As a woman who is addicted likes to shop I have been trying to curb my ways, I’m currently “saving” but then I bet about 99.9% of us are always saving for something. So on an unplanned trip to Kingswood in Hull, which by the way would never be classed as a shopping destination because there are only a few shops, I ended up spending a pretty penny.

Now I can’t be the only person who categorizes their shopping trips, and there are plenty: going out, casual day, casual night, work wear, gym wear, coats, jeans, shoes, specific item shopping that will go with everything in my wardrobe etc…

This shopping trip was really just for gym wear, which when you think about what it’s for it doesn’t count as shopping really because it’s more of a necessity. I managed to find some new running leggings and a new top and have put them to good use already!

I have to admit I used to class Next as a ‘mum’ shop, my mum always wanted to go in and I hated it with a passion. But then as I matured (ugh) and my fashion taste changed I started noticing how much better quality it was than say Topshop or New Look. This trip was no different, after my recent splurge at Zara  I decided that I wasn’t buying anything but walking around the Kingswood store was just to tempting.

I find it interesting how different stores of the same brand have a different affect on me as a customer, for example I visited the Next store in Scarborough and walked around it within seconds bored at its dark, unorganised store, the Kingswood store was airy, light and organised by clothing categories I couldn’t help but pick up several items.

As I walked round and put outfits together in my head, I had to stop myself from picking up more and more. I went through a phase of buying pencil skirts to wear for work, purely so I could wear tights all the time as the climate is so cold inside and out, but I’ve been looking for that pair of black trousers for so long that I couldn’t believe my luck at the ‘ultimate capri pant’. I know Victoria who has a great blog over at Lily loves Lola was looking for a pair of the perfect black trousers and these are definitely mine.

Ultimate Capri Pants, £38 // Laser Cut T-Shirt £25 // Snakeskin Print Blazer £36

Ultimate Capri Pants, £38 // Laser Cut Top £26 // Python Animal Jacket £34

I used my new Zara shoes as an example but I wore these with boots as the cut is just fitted enough to wear with them, and it sounds silly but my feet get so cold I can’t wear ballet style shoes for long without my feet getting ridiculously cold which is another reason for not wearing trousers so often!

My full outfit consists of a white laser cut top (which also came in a lovely cornflower blue) and the best lightweight blazer ever, it caught my eye because of the python print and skinny fit. As soon as I put this on in the changing room I knew I’d be walking out with it all, the perfect work wear outfit and its all monochrome with a nice bit of texture and print what more could you want?!

And just because I couldn’t help myself I also bought another pair of trousers, that are an absolute perfect fit and length and such a nice subtle print. Seriously, Next is my new place for trousers without a doubt.

Diane Kruger the (new) face of Chanel

Diane Kruger has become the ‘official’ face for Chanel’s new skincare campaign launching later this year. But let’s face it Diane has been the unofficial face of the Chanel brand for many, many years.

She met Karl Lagerfeld back when she was 16, and counts him as a very close friend “he’s like a godfather to me”. She’s been spotted countless times in hot off the runway Chanel couture, has probably the biggest collection of Chanel handbags and no doubt catsits for Choupette.

Diane’s first Chanel campaign was back in 1996 for their Allure fragrance and then again in 2007 for a bag campaign. She was most recently the face of Calvin Klein’s Beauty perfume.

You’d also think that been besties with Kaiser Karl would hold some gravitas towards getting her a US or UK Vogue cover. She’s been recently promoting her latest movie The Host, and I got my hopes up for a Vogue cover. But her March Glamour UK front cover was beautiful enough for me.

Taylor Swift: why are you so annoying?

I cannot make my mind up about Taylor Swift. She is like Marmite.

When she released that super catchy song We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together, I thought yes a great song about some kind of female empowerment, we girls are putting a foot down and not letting you boys drag us back and forth and tease us to and fro. And I shall play this song over and over until I can’t stand it anymore OH HO!

And then I was kind of miffed that it was yet another of those diatribes good old TayTay writes about a guy she dated for five hot minutes. She was hurt that [insert celeb guy name here] was in the wrong and so she goes and writes a song to kick them in the balls.

Why is Taylor so bloody naive that she wears her heart on her sleeve?

She knows she’s a super famous generally popular young female country pop singer that is also super duper rich and is followed by paparazzi religiously as soon as she’s in a “relationship”. So why does she insist on making things so publicly obvious, we all know how famous people hate the paps and will do anything to hide from them or will be purposefully cagey in interviews with publications and refuse to “talk about their private lives, because my private life is just that… blah blah blah”.

But she is on a whole other level. I mean what was that circus with Taylor Swift and Harry Styles? Jesus. It was painful knowing that in less that ten days she was going to have been “hurt” over “bad boy” Harry Styles, yet she insisted on letting them follow the couple to the zoo whilst accompanying their weird chaperones friends who had a baby that Taylor insisted on cooing over like she was in an episode of Teen Mom.

And then it’s almost as if it wasn’t all a publicity stunt because she has her next single ready and boom it’s called I Knew You Were Trouble, about Harry Styles. I think she’d broken up with him for all of seven seconds before it was released – she has a shit hot publicist let me tell you.

Then it was that interview with Vanity Fair where she talked a load of idiotic bollocks that made her as annoying as Anne Hathaway (poor Anne Hathaway I don’t even know why I don’t like her), about how she doesn’t like that tabloids and has to avoid them yet as well as the aforementioned paparazzi whoring she writes about her famous ex-boyfriends like we wouldn’t know and judge her songs over them.

She allowed a “source” to talk candidly about why ‘Haylor’ broke up and blamed Harry. Of course. But who else was just thinking as E! Online pointed out that the “source” was really just Taylor Swift. Boo.

Now, yet another interview later, Taylor speaks to Wonderland magazine about how she doesn’t know whether she’ll be married or single in the future. I mean for starters, she’s just 23. TWENTY-THREE. Chill. The. Eff. Out. Why does she insist on talking about all her relationships and whether she wants to be married and have children and then wonder why guys run a mile after spending more than a month in the company of her crazy desperate personality.

“Relationships are like traffic lights, and I just have this theory that I can only exist in a relationship if it’s a green light.

“I have no idea if I’m going to get married or be single forever or have a family or just be on my own. You know, paint in a cottage by the ocean by myself,” Swift said.

Gah. Take a note from Beyonce, girls rule the world. This is pathetic.

Maybe I belong in hell along with Amy Phoeler and Tina Fey [TS in VF: "There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women."] for pointing out just how annoying Taylor Swift is but why does she have to be like this so openly, and she wonders why other women pick on her because she is the worst example of the kind of desperate women out there. She just could be less whingy.

Oh and not forgetting she’s infiltrating one of my favourite television shows, New Girl. Please stay away from Nick.

I have nothing against cat lady's but Taylor, you're just setting yourself up for a fall.

Young Adult Books: Hopeless

Hopeless book

Ever since I read The Hunger Games series I became familiar with the term ‘young adult’. It’s the category for books that are not quite young enough for children, and apparently too old for adults.

I forget to class myself as an adult, in my mind I still like to pretend I’m younger than I am which probably attracts me to reading YA books.

They may sound lame to some people, but I can’t not read books and sometimes YA books are so much more imaginative and definitely less serious than all your ‘adult’ books out there.

I recently read a YA book called Hopeless, after literally reading the first paragraph of The Madam Editor’s blog post on it I went and downloaded it to my Kindle, and for 77p there’s no excuse not to buy it and try it for yourself.

It’s a love story (who isn’t a sucker for one of those?!), about a girl called Sky and a boy named Holder.

Sky is a 17-year-old girl about to embark upon her first year in high school after being home schooled by her mother. She has a best friend named Six, and their friendship although only briefly focused on in the first few chapters of the book is as appealing as the love story. Six is leaving to study abroad for a year in Italy, meaning Sky will have to cope with the first taste of public school all on her own.

What is poignantly unique about Sky, and as a 17-year-old in the 21st century, is she doesn’t own a piece of technology. Her adoptive mother Karen, insists she hates in and doesn’t see the need for it, so that’s no television, no mobile phone, no laptop, no internet. She doesn’t even know what LOL means. But Sky doesn’t even let this phase her unlike most teenagers, she is different from the rest and already has somewhat of a reputation by association which she doesn’t let bother her.

As the book unfold over days, we see the relationship with Holder come to focus. As she has a mysterious encounter with him at a grocery store you just know there is more to his personality smouldering good looks. Sky knows it too and after another chance meeting with him she, who never really has found a connection with a boy before becomes enamoured with him.

It is a refreshingly honest yet intense relationship, many could draw similarities between Hopeless and the Twilight novels, what with the high school setting and the mysteriousness of Holder. But it stops there, it is just better and real.

Although a YA book it contains some very hot and heavy make out sessions, including the best first kiss in the history of kisses. Colleen Hooper narrates the book with extra chapters dating back ‘Thirteen Years Later’ which you know are just a major part of the story as it gradually comes to it’s pretty much unbelievable if not slightly over the top climax.

A lot of interesting subjects are covered, but to reveal those would be to reveal they mystery surrounding Holder and Sky’s relationship and just what he knows about her past that even she didn’t realise was there deep down in the recesses of her mind.

I really enjoyed this book, and read it within a few days, an easy read that will have you guessing (in my case incestuously wrong) right until the very end.
