The Oscars 2011: The dresses

Wearing custom-made Marc Bouwer, winner of Best Supporting Actress Melissa Leo looked charmingly beautiful.

Amy Adams wore a sapphire blue embellished L'Wren Scott dress, and Cartier jewels worth $1.35m!

Former Best Actress winner Sandra Bullock in a perfect red Vera Wang fishtail gown.

I do love this dress, Calvin Klein's collection has proved to be very popular amongst a few actresses on the red carpet, but for the Oscars and as a nominated actress I feel Jennifer Lawrence could have pushed the glam factor and left the sex factor back at home...

These are the dresses that stood out, as they were all intricately detailed or with bright pops of colour in a verrrrry nude sea of dresses. Not one of the better awards shows I’ve seen, but then again it’s the Oscars and they’re all about conservative, I don’t see why the attendees have to bore me though. I was hoping the exclusive Vanity Fair party would bring back some excitement, but so far I’ve seen Emma Stone with really bad hair and wearing an odd Chanel Houte Couture dress, Madonna in a leotard with some sheer bits to make her daughter less embarrassed, Cameron Diaz in an ultra-mini dress by Carolina Herrera, and Gwyneth Paltrow channeling Strictly Come Dancing with a crystal-adorned nude dress.

Out of the arrivals Selena Gomez wowed me the most, obviously her Dolce & Gabbana dress was chosen for her, but her Justin Bieber shaped arm candy easily rose plenty of eyebrows. Poor tweens, he’s taken now.

Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Oscar Viewing party is also another big hitter for celebs, Nicole Richie was stunning in a white hot Halston dress with her husband Joel Madden, Odette Yustman was another celeb in red wearing Monique Lhuillier, and Chace Crawford and Ryan Kwanten looking too fit for words in tuxedos.

Not that I normally read the Daily Star newspaper, btu as I turned up for a shift at work it was lying on the table and of course it caught my eye with an image of Beyonce on the front. So there I turn to page 7 to see the headline “You feeling all white Beyonce?”.

I’m thinking that’s an odd headline she’s in a black dress, oh no wait it’s in reference to her skin. “Fans fear she bleaches skin like tragic Jacko” comes the claim. This cannot infuriate me more. As a mega Beyonce fan and also mixed race I can’t believe that the media are reporting that Beyonce is bleaching her skin, just because she looks pale in a photograph.

I do not wish to offend but has anyone ever heard of a tan? Yes white people sunbathe and go brown, black people tan and go darker. What happens when white people lose their tan they go pale and white again, what happens to black people especially mixed race when they lose their tan, they go pale.

I hear people say but black people can’t get a tan? Wtf, are you serious?

Beyonce seems to have not had chance to catch a little sun, so yes of course she looks pale. Right now I could probably pass as white I’m so pale and in desperate need of sunshine, I couldn’t go to a tanning salon in fear of being looked at funny or buy fake tan without the cashier wondering what the hell I was doing.

I will instead show you what a black tan is. Beyonce’s hair is a lighter shade of blonde, which is nothing new because she has been this blonde before, get over it Daily Star and everyone else. Jacko had serious problems, Beyonce for all I can see definitely does not.

Smallville: Superboy?

Things are heating up in the world of Smallville, in its tenth and final season rumours are rife that Alexander is not all he seems.

For those of you up to date with season 10, you will be aware that Lex in all his madness, and before he disappeared back in season 8, developed clones of himself and one has managed to survive.

Alexander escaped from the care of Tess (who we have just found out is also a Luthor, convenient?) and tried to kill ‘The Blur’, because he has all of Lex’s memories of deep hatred for the alien, but hit the lovely Martha Kent instead. I won’t go into much detail as it will soon become very confusing, but at the end of the last episode Tess tried to put down the poor young clone and found his skin unbreakable.

Originally, I thought that the young Alexander would mature to become Michael Rosenbaum (who has just been confirmed for ‘Finale’) by the final episode. But then how is it possible his skin is unbreakable? Then I just assumed it was because he was a clone and had extra abilities, but a fellow fan pointed me in the direction of just who Alexander really is…

Superboy aka Conner Kent

Superboy. Yes that’s right, half Clark Kent and half Luthor (the same fan also described the character as the gay lovechild of Lex and Clark go figure) he is genetically modified to possess the powers of Superman and implanted with memories from the evil Lex.

However upon further research it has become clear that Superboy (Connor Kent or Kon-El) is actually a force of good and so would probably in terms of Smallville be on the same team as Clark and his fellow Justice members. How does Lex come into this in the final two episodes? How can Rosenbaum turn Lex Luthor into the devil we all know him to be?

Victoria Beckham Fall 2011

Victoria Beckham lives for a smooth clean line and that is clear to see in every one of her designs, smooth and fluid is the theme that runs through with rich pops of autumnal colour to complement the season the collection is made for. I can’t help but enjoy the bright yellow dresses and the matching bag and coat in postbox red, as well as in black which I can see being very popular come the winter season. This collection also sees her step in the direction of shoes and a collaboration with Christian Louboutin which she mentioned earlier on Twitter: “Love the boots #VictoriaBeckham #NYFW thank u Christian Louboutin, they are AMAZING!!!!!!! X vb x”

Jason Wu Fall 2011

I think I’ve fallen in love with the whole of the Jason Wu Fall 2011 Ready-to-wear collection, it’s impossible not to love the accents of lace that high-street retailers are bound to copy, the perfectly tailored cigarette pants and Lanivn-inspired flowing skirts. With hints of the 70′s, baroque detailed coats, and romantic pops of colour every look will soon be spotted on red carpets alike.

If you’re going for a “look” that’s fine Leona, but 3 times in one week is just overdoing it. Are you styling yourself? I would guess so, because no stylist in their right mind would let a client wear the same thing in such a short period of time. And OMG I’ve just read that apparently not only is she styling herself but that these are her own designs! Nice weave though I would definitely love my hair like that.
