The Social Network

I went to see The Social Network the other night and I can see exactly why there is so much Oscar buzz surrounding it. The two leads Jesse Eisenberg (super geek crush) and Andrew Garfield are fantastic as Mark Zuckerberg and Eduardo Saverin, and the support cast is just as good.

Rooney Mara as Erica Albright, gives a taster of what’s to come when she takes the lead role of Lisbeth in the remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, starring alongside Daniel Craig. I find it interesting when unknowns are cast as leads, as you have no idea what to expect from them or any precedence to go by but I have a feeling she will be a rising star.

Armie Hammer, oh Armie Hammer how I love you (just a little) your dulcet tones and striking frame make you verrry dishy. Plus you have been in Gossip Girl which is always a good thing.

As I mentioned in The new Spider Man I was unsure of Andrew Garfield, but as always I am fickle in the world of film and turns out he stole the show. As Eduardo he totally got the audience’s sympathy as the guy that got taken for a ride and you feel really sorry for him, and he was totally cute in it too. Although he still is going to have to bulk up for Spider Man as his hair is like the width of his whole body.

And then we come to Him. Yes you know who I’m talking about. Justin Timberlake. The music god, the sexy bachelor (Urgh I forgot about Biel), the switch to acting has been smooth as hell, and his performance in Alpha Dog is still one of his best to date. I just assumed he would be in the movie from the start due to all the press tours with him touted as one of the leads, so  I was surprised that he didn’t appear until at least 3/4 of the way through, still it was worth the wait to see him portray co-founder of Napster Sean Parker.

Everyone always seem to ask JT, when are you going to release a new album? He always seems to reply with “I will, just not yet”, but I can wait as I know it will be frickin’ awesome when he does. Until then I leave you with a list of my Top 10 (started out as Top 5 but it was too hard) Justin Timberlake Tracks, because come on, who doesn’t like a bit of Sexy Back?

Runaway by Kanye

Kanye has his fingers in so many pies that his directorial debut in the form of a short film comes as no surprise.

What is surprising however is how beautifully shot Runaway is, it’s Kanye’s vision in the film but there are so many things that make it visually inviting to watch. The main focus being on The Phoenix, played by Victoria Secret model Selita Ebanks.

Selita Ebanks as The Phoenix

Her eyes are so piercing and her body the thing that makes me sick with envy. The phoenix costume is a thing of beauty all on its own, created by Phillip Lim and Martin Izquierdo, it is made up entirely of feathers and barely covers Ebanks lady parts.

The whole make up and costume of the phoenix is amazing, and if I could I would totes dress as a phoenix for Halloween if I could afford Phillip Lim to design me an outfit just like that.

Kanye and The Phoenix

There’s a weird section where there’s a floating Michael Jackson head that I don’t understand, with some guys walking around in KKK masks but maybe that’s just Kanye being Kanye.

My favourite part is the dinner party section, Kanye introduces The Phoenix to his fellow guests and the guy sitting next to him says “You know you’re girlfriend’s a bird, right?” Kanye’s reaction is just too funny. This is also where he launches into the new single Runaway, which has significantly grown on me and the whole point of the film is to showcase his new album and I must say I can’t wait to hear it in it’ entirety.

Ballerinas dancing to Runaway

Kanye has said he has gone back to the sound of College Dropout and Graduation, the latter being my favourite Kanye album so I’m happy that it’s not going to be like 808’s and Heartbreak which I was not fond of.

Runaway is a return to form, and the whole Taylor Swift incident is behind him after being forgiven by the country songtress, it seemed he had a bad year after the whole MTV shenanigan and maybe we should look past the whole stupidity of the act and realise just how good Kanye is at making music. I’m sure plenty of you would rather scratch your own eyes out than watch 35 minutes of Kanye, but I reckon you should give it a try.

The new Spider Man

Andrew Garfield as Spider Man. I know this is old news but it’s still bugging me a little. The Hollywood bigwigs are “rebooting” the web crusader franchise (as they are with so many superhero movies at present) but I’m not entirely sold on whether he is the right guy to portray Peter Parker.

I think the problem with Garfield being the “right guy” is the shoes he has to fill now that Tobey Maguire is no longer Spidey. You get used to an actor playing a character a certain way, Maguire’s geeky look and slight speech impediment (well the way his speech is kind of lisp-y) make Peter Parker the underdog and correctly so.

Now Garfield, has the same geeky look. And when I say geeky, I mean not traditionally good-looking like Ryan Reynolds for example. I picture Spider Man as a buff kinda guy which Maguire was able to do, but Garfield is a bit on the thin stringy side. Can he really change his body shape into that of a superhero? I’m not so sure.

However, I know he was cast for a reason, those bigwigs are bigwigs because they are clever, they can spot an up-and-comer a mile away and this is precisely what Garfield is.

In a recent interview in Interview magazine, he talks about how he had always dreamed of playing Spider Man and now there’s added pressure in “having to live up to this thing that [Peter Parker] is supposed to be or symbolises”.

He also says “When I found out about being cast in Spider-Man, it was like this bubble developed around me. I was floating in it for a while. And then, suddenly, it evaporated, and I was like, “Well, I’m just an actor. I don’t get to actually be Spider-Man.”

So will Garfield be able to add to Peter Parker’s inner struggles by using his own experiences or will he just be over excited playing his childhood hero?

Hopefully his recent films Never Let Me Go alongside Keira Knightley and Carey Mulligan, and The Social Network will prove he has potential. I’m willing to be swayed.

Lively lovely in Lanvin

Not many of you in the UK will have heard of Spike TV but it’s basically a channel for men. You know like the Dave channel we get on Freeview.

Well as the Americans are more glamourous than we are they hold an annual Scream Awards show honouring all things sci-fi, comics, fantasy and horror, and all the big names  in television and film attend. Megan Fox is a regular.

Megan Fox presented Best Villian to Mickey Rourke in a really boring peach dress.

Ryan Reynolds received Most Anticipated Movie for Green Lantern from Blake Lively who also stars in the movie (I can’t wait to see it), she was dressed head-to-toe in Lanvin from the Spring 2011 RTW Collection.

Most Anticipated Movie award goes to Green Lantern

The first look straight from the runway by the genius that is Alber Elbaz.

Most importantly Alexander Skarsgard was named Best Horror Actor, and as usual he looked all buff and tanned.

Alex accepted the award from the super tiny Kelly Osbourne

For a woman of 44 Halle Berry has STILL GOT IT. She looked about 25 in this gold number, what a lucky man Olivier Maritnez is.

Halle Berry, 44. Nuff said.

So NOT a good look…

Shenae Grimes what were you thinking? This is awful, I know your on your hols and all but you’re a television star who gets photographed by paparazzi you should be made up at all times in the best possible outfits.
